Thread regarding Enbridge Inc. layoffs

Severance Packages

As many have heard the finance transformation will affect many of the jobs for the Houston finance team. That being said, are any of you all willing to share past severance agreements/packages that Enbridge has offered during past restructuring or layoffs? How many weeks per service year or minimum weeks? Will the bonus be prorated?

On the Canadian side, I know perhaps three or four dozen people well who were let go starting as far back as 2016. Maybe a quarter of them involved a lawyer. Not one was told the package was in any way inadequate.

18 weeks for 20 years? Yeah, you're lying.

The pinnacle was VWO. The nadir is probably now. But Enbridge has not been miserly. The offers are well above what would stand up in court.

Run it by a lawyer, of course. But be prepared to be told, "It's fine", and be out the consultation fee.

@1f3

Employment law and legal precedent in the region they were laid off in would dictate this.

@1ec what case would you have to sue?

Enbridge's 'old' philosophy on severance was to give you just enough so it isn't worth suing, and they were masters at determining what that looked like.
I don't know if they're doing that today.

I think it is a reasonable assumption to assume the severance would typically range from 2-4 weeks per service year. Now, that being said, there could be a maximum number of weeks as well as a minimum number of weeks. Given the circumstances, one could only hope that a large company, as Enbridge, would be generous considering the impact that this will cause to many families.

Laid off 9 years ago with 17 years service, got 18 months pay with bonuses (STIP). This was in Canada and I know they aren't offering anywhere near that now.

@w0 sounds more reasonable than the guy claiming 18 weeks for 20 years of service

@OP 10 years service, 26 weeks with paid COBRA, RSU's paid out as per schedule, and prorated bonus paid out. Overall not to bad, let me ease into retirement. But it seams that each wave of layoffs gets less than the one before!

Get a lawyer and sign nothing until instructed by your legal counsel, or find a new job before, if you don’t have a long tenure with the company it won’t be great. This company has turned to sh-t the past few years, don’t let it fall on you.

20 years of service, was initially offered 18 weeks of severance. After involving a lawyer I got 43 weeks of severance. Not a fan of lawyers, but best money I've ever spent.
