Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

We're treated like frightened animals

Intel management uses the constant threat of layoffs to keep control and again and again demand more output. It forces people into silos, looking out only for their own survival. They assume we'll obey out of fear of losing our jobs, and, sadly, too often they're right about that.

That is most excellent.👍 You over came your poor situation and turned yourself around. I worked with a dude at Intel, he retired in his early '50s, and this was long before any of the layoffs or even the 2015 ACT. He overcame several generations of welfare paid off his house, he knew the value of a dollar and of a dollar earned. The key theme is he didn't spend what he didn't have and he didn't go into debt on stupid s*** like new cars. And I'll tell you this when he purchased his house he was dealing with 9% interest rates. In the '80s people were dealing with 20% interest rates but they knew the value of a dollar and not to spend what you don't have.

Most employees are incompetent nepo hires or nepo/$ degrees. Further layoffs will increase the %

OP, if you continue to stay and be exposed to the abuse than it is really on you. You know how they are going to treat you and you keep coming back for more. Have you really tried to find another job? If you aren't successful in finding a new job have you worked on getting current training in relevant skills or improving you interview techniques? If you aren't dedicating 100% of your free time to getting out of Intel then it must not really be that important to you to improve your life.

@ks My parents were tweakers and couldn't even put food on the table half the time, let alone pay for my college. I did everything solo and worked hard, sacrificed a lot, to get to where I am today.

It's almost like all the people you talk down on because they clearly just aren't good at money maybe just haven't had the support and resources you were born with.

Maybe consider that before mocking people who will lose everything if they're unemployed for more than a month or two

It's clear your parents are boomers, did they save for your college education so you didn't have to start your work career with no debt? Or were they the ones swapping out cars every 3yrs instead of saving for your future. Maybe you should be bi--hin to them.

@cc
It's really too bad all high schools don't have a requirement for money management class. When I here that an individual has spent a decade or maybe 2 working for a company that paid well in the industry and then they say they don't even have 6 months of money saved to pay their bills I call b*** on that and say those individuals have been living way beyond their means. You got to have that bigger house that new car every 5 years constantly spending more money than you make and then you wonder why you're in the position you are. And don't give me that b*** that it's unaffordable now because if you were around in 2008 working for Intel you could have bought two houses after the crash for the price of 1/2 house now in most geographies except maybe New York and California. If you've gotten divorced or had some serious illness I feel for you, the rest of you have no excuse.

@OP If you go around on all fours, then at times you are presenting your behind for others to see and use, which may be frightening.

Why would they live their scam? They can just scan their badge one time and then go home and do OF?

Soon to be ex Intel employees can’t muster the energy nor the plan to execute a successful job search, compounded by the fact everyone in their network knows they’re worthless

The best time to look for a new job is while you have one. I recommend that you start looking. There are many incredible companies everywhere, much better than Intel and in much better locations.

@b8 many years ago, the job market and the economy were likely in a wildly different position. You were not fighting for a tiny pool of available jobs relevant to your field along with a huge number of other people with similar or greater experience levels. Many of my former coworkers that were laid off in July still haven't found work yet. It's great if you were in a position to save enough money to carry your family for over 6 months, but many of us would be financially destroyed.

@OP- sounds like you need therapy. Or at least, to experience being laid off at least once. Maybe both

Harsh? Probably. But as they say, the truth will set you free.

I got laid off many years ago and stumbled through 6 years of intermittent contract gigs while going to school to get a BS. Before I got laid off, I was young, d-mb and didn't plan through the next paycheck so there was a lot of pain. And I am better for it Today, if I get laid off, I am well prepared to take care of myself and my family. Will it su-k, yes, but life moves on

@aw
the overpaid ignorant skillless executives

analogy is:
somehow when the ship hits an iceberg because of the drunk incompetent captain
all the regular workers die (get fired)
but the captain escapes on his luxury yaht

if you get paid a lot, you should be responsible for more
and you should suffer the consequences for failure more

The millennial generation is fed up with this nonsense. The people in charge talk about older workers stuck in their ways and to lay them off 1st. The working generations have just about had it with the corruption and being treated like a number.

Don't let that place beat you down, there are better companies that value their employees and plenty of jobs, you just have to make sure you have a strong resume and a tailored cover letter. They want you to think they are not replaceable and that you are, it truly is the opposite, I speak from experience.
