Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Say it loud, say it proud, we’re number 875!

So Forbes also has a world’s best employers list too. And AT&T is 875 out of 900.

No more commentary needed at this point.

“Maybe he can’t afford better outfits. He makes a lot of money but we never know how he spends it.”

Are you loco? That dude makes north of half-a-million a year. If he can’t afford some nice suites & similar attire the he must be an inveterate gambler or have some other (very) expensive vices.

@qg he can afford better outfits than gym clothes.
They’ve gotten very lazy with their language and their clothes.

A lot of people have come in here to make fun of Corey Anthony’s poor wardrobe choices. We have not walked in his shoes. Maybe he can’t afford better outfits. He makes a lot of money but we never know how he spends it.
Be kind as he may not have any money for better clothing

I’m canceling my uverse tv subscription because it’s gotten more expensive and I’m sick of this company. I work here but plan on retiring early.
I have no interest whatsoever in coming back as a contractor.

@nr They don’t have to admit they were wrong. They rightfully ditched Warner and
DTV, touted the ‘new’ direction and saw some positive response in the stock price until recently. They don’t have to say 5 day RTO and the way they have handled this overall for the last 2+ years has been a massive failure. They could just say as a ‘market based culture’ we see that the market favors flexibility and that’s why we are bringing back hybrid work. They won’t because the ego bruise would be too much, but if they had any brains and/or guts, they could.

I appreciate the Forbes information but I doubt our leaders will do anything because they have never admitted that they are wrong about anything.
Can y’all remember when they said “Mea Culpa”? Not me. Not even when they lost millions on follies such as Warner Media.
But good article nonetheless.

A friend of mine is going to take a job with the company because the economy sux right now and it is tanking. I told him to stay as long as he can stand it until hopefully the economy gets better or just keep applying at better businesses like Microsoft.
What is our company going to do with all of their multi million multi year plans when they can’t keep good folks? I can’t imagine what that will look like. Products and services put on hold? Leadership thinks ServiceNow will solve everything but I’ve not seen good results from it .

I’m reading the criteria Forbes used to make the list and I gotta say, I think T’s rankings are pretty damning and right on.
My biggest problem with T stems from the phony emails and so forth saying “we care” about this and that when they don’t.
They don’t care at all about our health or anything or well being.
That phoniness just bothers me and I just hit delete on the emails saying “we care” because at the end of the day, we have Stankey’s “Dear Joan/Dear John” email telling us adios muchacha muchacho if we have concerns or issues. Did they think we’d forgotten about his email?
Seriously?

You’re missing the forest for the trees.
You must be in the C suite.

The information in Forbes corporate profile of AT&T is out of date. It mentions Zander and Warner. Not defending AT&T but seriously Forbes!

My Mom always said “can’t fix stupid”.
So this year Air India outranks us, coming in at 874.
In order to do better than them next year, we will need new leadership.

If our corporate “leaders” think the Forbes numbers are wrong, guess again. During the various town hall meetings and conferences, the “leaders” acted with disdain whenever employees’ concerns were raised. They thought they were hearing from a vocal minority view.
Wrongo! And the Forbes rankings prove this.

Personally I think the low rankings are a result of the lack of confidence and trust in T. Do employees believe what the C suite says? I don’t.
All baloney. I wasn’t asked my opinion by Forbes but I’m sure that ranking is correct.
That’s the truth you losers in C suite

Stankey used to be all for DEI. When the new administration announced DEI supporting companies won't get government contracts then Stankey turned against DEI. It took the new administration to get John to make a good decision!!! DEI is to hold back the competent and skilled so the incompetent and lazy can keep up!

Randall Stephenson and the BOD decision to buy direct tv was near criminally stupid. It put us in such a bad spot and then time warner and John Stankey was bad on top of bad. This company is doing better than it should be for what we’ve been thru. The reason is the network. The fiber network and the wireless network is immense and it’s an incredible cash machine. What company can waste $100 billion that they didn’t even have no less and come out this healthy. It’s not leadership it’s luck for them. Wireless is the golden goose that never stops producing. I can’t think of a time an executive made a $100 billion dollar mistake and didn’t get fired or go to jail. Board of directors must be stacked with ringers. That is why I’ll never invest with this corrupt board and T. Good luck to any that do because you never know what self serving decision they may make next.

From the mouths of 🤖 AI:

"Slash and burn" is slang for a ruthless, aggressive, or destructive approach, often in business or politics, that involves getting rid of a large number of people or systems with little concern for the consequences. It can also describe a method that is rough, coarse, or lacks finesse.

Eventually Intelligentsia will get together and write a white paper or book on the subject of ATT’s history and eventual decline, stemming from the self inflicted “culture” war/ conflict and vibe.
Business schools will point to ATT’s stated values such as “ I don’t want your Loyalty”, and the self inflicted “Slash-and-Burn” RTO polices, designed as getting rid of people. They will also note the “bite the hand that feeds you” policy of “getting rid of the Old People”, which resulted in the massive brain drain. ATT has lost the very folks that helped it survive 150 years. It’s shocking to think that “we don’t want old people “ became a stated policy.
Can’t wait to read that book/tome.

An adjacent team to ours is already having to interview folks who were previously laid off just to fill jobs. No one with any options wants to work here. One office space tour will send anyone that does not need a work visa headed for the door. Paying people six figures to sit in 3rd world call-center workspaces is underpants-on-the-head stupid.

C Suite Funnies - remember how they laffed and guffawed at the following:

•the time the EGC HR lady thought Stankey’s memo following the survey results was cute, and had a good laugh about it.
•the time McEl Freak freaked out and turned to the camera and angrily told the audience that they have NO idea how hard front line people working in COs have it.
•anytime the head of our IT uses profanity laced language during a town hall meeting, aimed at employees
•anytime the head of network rolls his eyes at employees’ concerns during a town hall, wearing gym clothes no less
Yup, C suite laffed.
And now who’s laffing, now that the corporate world is understanding why morale is so low here.
I’m sure it’s going to get harder to get and retain good employees.
Not funny. Hopefully they will get motivated to do better, to be honest and better.
Thank you

This should be brought up in every town hall. They will say they are “listening” and take the survey results seriously by having their cya training sessions and whatever they think will actually address the problem without actually addressing the real issue.

Keep the heat on. They hate it. They desperately want to move on from RTO but keep pushing. Drive them nuts.

My boss was saying that he is able to get a of 1st interview candidates but more thann 90% turn down 2nd interviews when they learn about what it is like to work for T.

Every time they talk about “culture” vs market based, they lose sight of what’s really happening- employees are not valued and are leaving.
Recruitment is non existent.
The corporate world is catching on quickly. Soon , 60 Minutes will be doing a deep dive into the outages and low morale , punctuated by low stock ratings and low positive survey numbers.

OP, much appreciated. I read the article and ranking. How low will AT&T go before changes are announced?
We are only 10 notches above one of the most universally hated companies, Uber . Let that sink in.
Uber came in at 885. We barely beat them.
We used to be better than this.

big stank had to know he was going to wreck the company. He hides behind the “culture” card now "external market", but that’s exactly what he ended up destroying, the results are not random its cause and effect. he tried to play the game by timing the layoffs right after the initial survey a few years ago play stupid games, win stupid prizes

On the culture score, T was 567 out of 600, on this recent list, 875 out of 900. Great job John, keep doing what you are doing!!

You are well on your way to winning the race to the bottom. Stay the course, by 2026 (the 150 year anniversary of the company) you will have completely destroyed anything good that remains. You certainly have the anti-Midas touch.

I recently had an epiphany of sorts.

Someone on this page shared that many ex ATT employees went to a company called WTT. When I went to their company website I saw a smaller company that thrived by saying it valued its employees. The quote by the CEO was encapsulated within background photos of happy employees. When you look closer at the faces in the photos, you can see genuine happiness.

Here’s the quote.

Our employees are the foundation of our company's success and how we run our business. That's why we are invested in them and their well-being, and why we strive to create a culture that empowers, supports and celebrates all people."

Jim Kavanaugh, CEO and Co-Founder

I said to myself, I remember working for a place lie that. Then it hit me. Why am I still here?

I liken it to the frog in the pot. You don’t know you’re cooked until one day you wake up. It happens slowly so it’s hard to see the change. Little by little they’ve been turning up the temperature on the stove and I can now feel myself starting to cook.

The question now is when will I be done. The thought is already placed in my mind.

I can do better.
