Thread regarding USAA layoffs

How bad has it gotten to where someone decided to make a fatal choice?

I do not know any details nor have I found any articles. But if it's true it makes me sad, because someone decided to we-ponize their final choice to send a message .

Can someone provide a link ? I tried searching and I'm not a USAA employee anymore .

Very few people are close to the truth right now. These days of being the first to report on a dreadful story is more important than it is to do the hard work of fact finding. While this settles, the family can see these wicked comments, see the false media reports, and colleagues can be taken down dark paths of speculation, impacting their mental health too. There are multiple factors involved always. I’ve been where the surviving family is and understand this torture will be their constant companion for a long, long, long time. For now, I’d rather be focusing on them then on USAA’s possible culpability. That’ll take care of itself. Anyone close to this gentleman or his family is changed FOREVER. The family needs all the support and prayers anyone is willing to send their way. Be kind; it’s needed and it really matters.

Wayne Peacock sent an email to all employees confirming that we lost a P&C teammate in a tragic incident at our home office today (8/26/23).

Is the message from WP about a "shooting incident" another incident? I am confused.

I just called a local news outlet. They said they simply don't cover su----es unless something else happens that makes it "newsworthy", like mu---r-su----e. They said this is bc reporting su----es often cause more su----es or other tragedies, so they just don't do it. Guess I can see why.

there's a message from wayne 'about a shooting incident' at the campus.

When is enough, enough?? It's not enough to have EAP- the environment at this company is full of fear, angst and stress!

@buk+1ojCayW9 That may be so, but that doesn't mean that we should believe these articles that have no basis in reality. They don't cite their sources, they don't appear to be reputable, and one of them doesn't even make sense if you read the article. It talks about someone "passed away from su----e by shooting self dead inside the officer located at The McDermott Building".

I'm just as outraged as everyone else, but getting fired up over literal fake news only makes things worse.

We know this person took their own life. We can speculate how, why, and where, but until we get word from someone who saw it, someone who was involved in working with law enforcement, someone in physical security, or another official source, it's just that: speculation.

We should be outraged, but we should be outraged about what actually happened — not about what we think happened.

The only "facts" are going to be what the company decides to release. We will never know the true story unless the deceased left a published note

FYI…The site is editing the link to remove trigger word and changing it to su——e so you need to manually edit the link to get to the article.

I'm seeing a ton of rumors and speculation, and out of respect for the family I think we need to wait until we get facts from a reputable local source. So far, the only thing we really know is that someone took their life on campus.

There are some "news" articles that have been posted that are not at all reputable and are spreading misinformation (or at the very least, unverified information). We don't know for a fact that this person was fired. We don't know for a fact that this person shot themselves in South Garage. Those details come from the aforementioned fake news articles. Most news articles aren't going to into specifics when it comes to su----e; that alone should be a tell that these articles are fake.

These "news" articles are dubious to say the least. I'm personally going to wait until I see something from USAA leadership or a local source like the Express News. These other articles reek of sites like Medium that allow anyone to post articles about anything they want.

You don’t have any facts yet either & these links keep breaking. “Heavily implies” is not evidence.

I’m starting to despise USAA also but I just find it odd to immediately default to being the companies fault. I don’t want it be work related, do you?

I used to work out on Saturday’s on campus. It’s empty. Quiet. Away from general public…

I hope this gets clarified soon. These links are not to any verified news sites and are being taken down as quick as they are being posted so that this speculation will end.

I'm sure that what happen definitely entails to the persons state of mind which we can only speculate on...but if you're using your place of employment to do it and (im just running off the assumption that what's been posted is true..) you were just laid off .... you're definitely trying to send a message .

RIP and my condolences to the family.

Because their decision to do it on campus on Saturday heavily implies that it’s related to USAA… playing contrarian when you have no actual counter argument to present smacks of either childish devil’s advocacy or ignorance about the state of USAA.

Also, we’re seeing it alleged reported that it had to do with them losing their job.

This has nothing to do with usaa. That individual couldn't take the world and did what he did. It's all on him.

I’m not sure why everyone is jumping to conclusion this was intended as a message to USAA. People that make this choice sometimes struggle with where to commit the act. They don’t want family to find them or have to deal with the physical aftermath. Usaa campus (parking garbage) on a Saturday would unfortunately be a place to do it….

Awful.
