Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

US November 2020 Layoffs

  1. What areas (functional orgs) do people think will be hit the hardest by the November 2020 layoffs that result from the US studies ?
  1. Which age demographics will be hit by the hardest by the upcoming November 2020 layoffs that result from the US studies (old people, new people, or people in the middle of their career)?
  1. Will US employees laid off from the upcoming US studies receive a severance package and if so how much?

Anyone else think EMRE is in trouble? Especially with KLTC growing and BMR effectively a fancy way of saying “support the sites from abroad instead of spring”? I would think with the wait before letting us know the news, a large part of the “study” is going to be results on these efforts.

Contractors that don’t directly deal with the business need to be cut first. Then the enormous amount of MBAs we have.

Exxon has recently hired an enormous amount of experienced external people in their trade groups. F&L has ballooned in size and has way too many layers. I expect them to lay-off a number of people from there both analysts and middle managers. 2 weeks for every year is fine if you been with the org for 25 years. What about a minimum like the PIP people were given 3months.

@1fgh+17CuvF9s Agree 100%. And advancing their own slides and running a zoom meeting. Pathetic engineers whose job is to advance slides for out beloved managers.

I would say anyone who is incapable of managing their own email and calendar has to go. I can’t believe in this day we still have people who REQUIRE an admin to take care of their calendar. Come on buddy, you can do this yourself. You are not that important. And if you can’t you should not be working here. We are trying to modernize the company. Time for those people to retire..

Lindaland - UBD and UiS - will be completely decimated. Especially exploration, so good be done.

I hate to say it, but on the geoscience side there are still too many advisors, STCs, chiefs, and (stated as nicely as possible) sidelined supervisors & managers. The effects of excessive promotions/“management development” are still being felt from the glory days of 5+ years ago

Unfortunately for the business folks EMIT is already in the GBCs and now 1200 contractors lighter in the US. Targeted cuts are coming to Geoscience, Digital Transformation, and Research groups.

@wqz+17CuvF9s Wait, how is cheaper to layoff younger employees that have lower salaries?

They have already forced so many older employees out over the last four years It is hard to believe that many are left.

Sorry to burst your bubble but “long term pension savings “ is the least of concern for the company. The company urgently needs cash right now therefore the most senior employees with significantly higher salaries will be much bigger target compared to newer employees

i would say anyone under 5 years and not in the highest quint has a huge target on their back due to long term pension savings.

@wqz+17CuvF9s - Hope your speculation isn’t correct considering NSI people got 3 months of pay earlier this year... 5 year employees that survived NSI would only get 0.5-2.5 months of pay...

This is all pure speculation on my part as I have no direct knowledge of how this will play out. Just guessing.

  1. EMIT, Global Projects, and anything that can be outsourced to BSCs
  1. I think there will likely be both a performance component and years of service component. It would be cheaper to lay off younger employees ( 5 YE), plus you retain experienced professionals who can pick up slack.
  1. Yes, there will be a severance package. I expect somewhere in the neighborhood of 2 weeks pay for every year of service.
