Just noticed several managers a few levels up from me are taking PTO on 8/8. Do you think that means folks below them are safe? Or are they taking off so they don’t have to be there for the conversations?

Did anyone get a layoff notice yesterday? Wasn’t 8/8 the big day for RIFs?

Aren't the PL's who have taken off 8/8 and 8/9 doing the same thing the people who will be told they are being RIF'd by taking off 8/8 and 8/9? Sounds like those PLs are already aware that they are being RIF'd.

That's not true unless your manager is below an M15. M15 and above do not accrue PTO. That said, managers are typically M14 while directors are M15.
Maybe using up all there pto before things hit the fan
Those managers were already notified if they are out and or they will call a last minute informal meeting with you to let you go if it has been decided you are gawn.
In the meantime please work hard dont ask questions and keep believing the sinking ship is actually accelerating.
It's August. Most people take off during this month. It doesn't matter if it's 8/8 or 8/18, etc. Just a coincidence.
My manager has taken the whole week off saying he needs to burn pto hours. lol.
It's end of summer and a typical vacation week. If your leader is off, it does not mean they won't be dialing in and relaying messages, unfortunately.
This is the most likely answer, especially if they're taking the 9th as well.
I don't think an unimpacted PL has the option to say nah fam, I'm not delivering this news.

They may have taken off because they have got notice they are being laid off
I have noticed the same in my team and Dept.. Those are the managers who are coward and cannot face the tough situations. They are trying to escape from the difficult conversations. No respect for them, neither as leader, nor as human beings.
I’ve noticed 2 directors, a manager and a PL taking off 8/8. Most are also taking Friday off as well. Last time I was laid off under a different company my manager took off the date and we had to wait for HR to be free to let us go. It was the ultimate chicken s move.
