Thread regarding Mattel Inc. layoffs

Toy Fair

M-Go, you've had a year, we're expecting to see big connected things in New York. Whatcha got? Thingmaker 2? Aristotle 2? Hologram Barbie 2? Relauches of He-Man & She-ra? Was Toy Box nimble enough to come up with a Tide Pod toy in time? Don't miss these trends!

Meh indeed. What an embarassment our gallery was. How can RD recite his inane patter with a straight face? He's a laughing stock. Innovation pipeline? What a joke. No innovation to be found anywhere. A few good sculpts were the only noteworthy things in our gallery. Even cheesy label slappers like Toysmith have better products. Sad days indeed, our founders would be ashamed. These talentless new C-suiter hacks are simply running out the clock and waiting for a buyout. Sign me up for the next layoff.

MEH-tel.

You can tell it's MEH-tel, it's MEH.

"MEH is the new cool", said RD, driving his Bland Rover.

RD was a laughingstock at toy fair thus far. people are giggling behind his back as he tries to sell polly pocket as all new. even a presenter was caught off guard after he said that and she looked at us and said “new? where’s he been? I played with this when i was a kid.” pathetic.

In recent years Toy Fair has meant the unveiling of some half-baked "techy" non-toy product, complete with "exclusive first look!" write ups by the likes of Wired or Fast Co. magazine, that ultimately never materialised as real product. See Barbie Hologram, Thing Maker, that Amazon Echo thing, Sproutling baby wearable etc.

As far as I can tell this year we're bucking that trend, with most of the hype machine working in favor of new Jurassic Park toys, Polly Pocket, some HW RC soccer game, a few FP drivers and a couple of boardgames. In other words, a nice well rounded line up of good toys that offer a little something for everyone.

What objections can we identify?

Toy fair looks good every year... PR and all fluffy hype, measure a toy fair a year after by quantifying revenue and profitability of the products shown . Mattel is great at BS hype but not with follow up with sound strategy or business execution!! We were also told that Mattel was set up for a good 2017, that certainly was not true!

Uno meets transformers? Polly pocket is a new property? Hot wheels hot??? High on Barbie? RD is truly a man who believes his own BS or is just... High.

Yep, that previous post about the two SVP Bad Boys was far more entertaining. We all already know this company’s going to Hell in a hand basket under her leadership. I’ve been sending out resumes for the last four months now. Maybe some of you are still delusional, as M-Go may be, that this place is still going to rebound. Not me. Your only concern now should be the fit of your life jacket.
