Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

Yo Elliot

It’s pretty clear given AC has only 11 direct reports and 200 additional people took the time to upvote how awful of a leader he has been, that you have a problem with tech leaders.
Just layoff and don’t replace.
Leader of tech RA is likely breathing a sigh of relief as he was being pinged as an arrogant unqualified leader before the AC post overshadowed that.
Do your layoff of all of us but if you want the remaining folks to care and not be riddled with low morale, you’ve got to get rid of all existing tech leadership. All.
Clear case of how one bad apple in charge of 11, can affect hundreds and that’s just those on this site.

@pg the risk of retaliation isn’t high, it is certain. This is the way.

@pg are you insinuating there was nepotism at Nike!? Give the guy a break, he left Nike a while ago. It’s not like his actions would have a lasting effect that would take any amount of active effort to undo years later.

I don’t get why this is a big deal. All he did was hire and promote people that fit a certain demographic and specific caste. This action is specifically sanctioned by Nike in our DEI strategy, and subsequent exec compensation bonuses. How could it be wrong.

It’s not like those actions were illegal… (checks notes) oh.

@m8 we could, maybe should start a list with specific examples, but I think the risk of retaliation might be high.

Think beyond just people the RAT directly hired. Think of folks like all the VPs and SR Dirs who forced their orgs to only hire Gspann ETWs. What was the business justification? They didn't give us a significantly better rate, the quality wasn't better, there was no special skill they brought to the table. It was just corruption at its worst. The RAT and Gspann founder are buddies. These 'leaders' just wanted to please Rat.

Another example. RA, the newly elevated VP. We all laughed when the RAT bragged about bringing world class talent from other companies on those town hall slides, like Kohls? really that's world class? you know what other company was on the list. Burberry.

@m8 just the person leading the entire program management function, responsible for annual and long range planning. Was hired as a deck designer for one of the rat lieutenants.

WHY DOES NIKE PROMOTE AND PROTECT SUCH BAD LEADERS?!

Assuming we are talking about Converse AC… he’s an absolute joke. He does not care about the brand. He’s covering up all the misconduct and con artist leaders below him. It’s clear looking around at who is left and who he allowed these fraudster leaders to chop.

"Only" 11 direct reports?

It's kind of sad that AC is getting called out when he's just one of many. Posts always get deleted... but there are a lot of folks who were hired or promoted under the Rat and his lineage that need to go. They are so eager to cut jobs or send them offshore instead of keeping folks who lived the Nike Maxims and culture. Cutting the ones who actually cared about the consumer and doing the right thing. If you tried to do the right thing, bullseye on your back in next layoff. These 'leaders' bounce around in every re-org, take credit for the successes that they had no part in, blame the plebes for any failures and promise to fix it with 5y's. Then kiss the ring of any new leader above them. Rinse and Repeat. It's not GT its GoT.

I don't work in his org but a supporting Org, and we're extremely frustrated in any interaction with him. Is there anyone even in his direct LT he oversees that is any better though? We meet plenty of the "on the frontline people" and they're always gracious and easy to work with but not sure about the rest.

Who needs culture when we can replace a single employee "here" with ......oh no...... 1.3 employees "there". Man. I really should have run the numbers through an excel sheet instead of an AI vibe. Good thing leaders like me are never held accountable for our failures.

wouldn't it be nice if Nike has an internal system to report these things?

oh wait they do, but if you report there then you are immediately fired, this has been verified many times

so instead we have to rely on a public 3rd party site to anonymously post, how utterly sad is that

and EH talked about how much the culture has improved...pretty sure we are not seeing any aspect of that whatsoever
