No one forgot you can be mad at two people at once. But if the government passed a law saying we all had to pay 80% of our money in taxes, you COULD be mad at people who refused to pay it when there was a crackdown, but the only people you SHOULD be mad at are those creating unjust rules. Even though I went in barely over 50%, I am not mad at those who didn’t go in at all because I know the the problem is leaders that put ever increasing profits over their own employees and that come up with bad policies that strip away benefits some of us have had since well before the pandemic. Rule breakers, keep doing your thing! Cigna leadership…I hope you get enough holes in your golden parachute to land hard enough to break your legs!!!

The people complaining about misdirected anger forgot that we can be mad at two people at once....

“I’m always saddened to learn that I work with so many d-mbasses.”
Dunning-Kruger effect on full display here. Keep licking those ELT boots and thinking the problem is us instead of the people in “charge”.

It’s clear that this change is related to the people that didn’t adhere to the policy. I’ve heard that some people complained that offices were empty during the first phase.

Amazon did the exact same thing in response to lack of office attendance as well as other companies with return to office mandates.

Cigna is no different, the writing is on the wall.

If you blame non-compliant employees for a draconian policy, then you are probably the kind of person who believes inflation is because of immigrants or Biden and not the already highly profitable corporations who keep ja--ing up prices because they can. You are blaming the wrong person and that’s what they want. They want us fighting amongst ourselves instead of paying attention to the damage the 1% elite and especially the .1% are causing.

I find it really sus that some dipsh-t that is angry with people that didn't comply - as opposed to those that made the unreasonable rules to begin with - has lots of upvotes and anyone that argues with him has lots of downvotes. Seems like he's using a proxy to vote multiple times or something. HR, is that you? What a boot-licking clown.

Blaming someone who does not comply (and may face consequences for non-compliance) for "making it worse for all of us" is misdirected anger. It is senior management who set these policies and it is misguided to blame any one of us workers for the shift from "50%" to "more than 50%" to "three full days with Tuesday and Wednesday being anchor days". I agree if I am non-compliant I own the consequences that relate directly to me. I do not agree with the assertion that my non-compliance somehow makes it worse for others. This policy is ill conceived and has been poorly explained from the onset. The reasons given (e.g., decreasing silos, increasing collaboration and increasing learning) don't make any sense for those of us who are not colocated with others with whom we work.

@2kfe+1sk9ZK8i sure, but if people originally complied instead of sitting at home coasting like this guy, they would’ve had more incentive to job hunt if they found the policy unbearable and it wouldn’t have gotten to this point

You really think the plan wasn't to ramp up expectations for in-office time regardless of compliance? This was about cutting heads. If enough didn't quit from the initial rollout, they needed to double down to make more people leave. Has nothing to do with who went in and who didn't. Some of you should be laid off if you're stupid enough to think otherwise.

@lvf+1sk9ZK8i , I think there is no point entirely blaming the OP. The HR should have kept 3 days flexible and fired people who didn’t show up at all. There is no end to this. Even if they make 3 days mandatory with anchor days, there will be defaulters. And if there are too many of them, then they will make it 5 days a week and probably 9 hours if you take lunch break.
So honestly, they will just keep increasing the bar until they achieve their goal. At some point everyone will faulter and they can successfully achieve 40% attrition and move those jobs to India and Ireland.

I feel sorry for you. I complied and now it’s worse for me because you didn’t. I’m not totally blaming those that didn’t do what they were told but you do have some culpability and you need to own it. They told you from the start that you could be fired so, if that’s what happens, you chose it.

The policy su-ks yes! Decisions have consequences. Did you think this group of leaders were going to let it slide when they are JE’ing good workers left and right? C’mon!

And for those saying don’t turn on each other… how about some folks take accountability for their own behavior?!? SMH. They made it worse for all the rest of us. OWN IT.

Stop turning against each other. Bosses are not able to act as leaders so executives are turning you against each other. You cannot blame someone for quiet quitting or not going into the office when the company is a dumpster fire. ELT is manipulating and pushing your buttons! Frankly you should all quiet quit before they strip the severance policy down to almost nothing. Directors are so d-mb they don’t even believe it’s a toxic environment. Get out while you can! Save your sanity and integrity. You deserve it!

This is completely about voluntary attrition, retaining corporate tax breaks, and perceived shareholder value. Follow the money. "FOW" = "Fill Our Wallets" for the executive leadership team. Many articles out there describing how Return to Office efforts are failures and leading to horrible employee morale.

“People like you” …that is not nice or helpful and not true. I did comply with the policy but be real this is about money and HR will get what they want… voluntary attrition to save $$.

I don’t think those who didn’t go in “ruined it.” I think ELT didn’t get enough people off the payroll voluntarily through attrition. JE/ severance is too expensive so they are pushing so you quit or get fired to meet their FTE numbers.

We haven’t gotten anything in my org for reporting on those that haven’t gone in. Kinda almost only believe the reporting exists. —> senior manager in IT

To the OP and others - If you didn't go in AT ALL since September then YOU RUINED IT FOR ALL OF US WHO DID. Now we are forced in 3 days per week because you couldn't even come in once per week. I too drive an hour each way, minimum, and I did it. No one has reprimanded me yet. But because you are too lazy to come in and too stupid to just quit back in September you forced them to come down hard. You su-k.

Yes, I did receive notice that I wasn’t compliant enough a few weeks ago. It wasn’t a formal notice, just a conversation with my manager. They have been sending reports to the various orgs. First report my organization got was in December.

If you can stomach the idea of being on the naughty lists, and getting a talking to, and getting reprimanded formally, and getting fired - definitely stick it out.

Personally, going through all that would just be too much for me. My anxiety couldn’t take it and the corporate injustice of it all. I quit. It’s what they want anyway & corporations always win unfortunately.

On to bigger and better things!

Were you truly non compliant ? How well do you think you followed the 20 hour thing ?

Didnt go at all ever. 1.5 hrs drive 46 miles doesnt make sense so… anything over 30 min coommute should be a not needed in site, because no one else on my team is aligned to any office

‘I've only been back since March. I'm doing 2 partial days and so far, heard nothing.’

Are you still doing 2 partial?

Maybe the first week I did but after I realized how pointless it is, and noticed the overall emptiness of the building, I scaled back. I haven't charted my hours but doubt I've hit 20 in any week since.

What is the subject line ? I didn’t notice it . Generally your manager or senior manager would have communicated as they were the ones getting reports
