Thread regarding Hitachi Vantara layoffs

The axe is down.

Yep. Reorg is here and I'm on the receiving end. Good luck to the folks who are still there.

Exactly. There are too many softball questions that may seem challenging but without a drop of a dime they answer within a split second.

Aren't you a troll?

Either way, your post did made me feel better that I got axed.

If you're a current employee and you're trying to shine a better light to the company? Then good for you but this is "thelayoff" not "brownnosing".

If and big IF, you're really GK (pseudonym CEO GK) then wow! Speaks volume the type of leader you are with posts like these and right here too.

For everyone else, please see line 1.

have a look at the company reporting structure, very top heavy! Senior manager has several managers managing 1 or 2 persons. Everyone is a manager! So when the axe came down, Managers retain their own job, but let go the good employee. Something wrong with these management team.

DS and DI BU’s are both making major reductions.... America’s first and EMEA next due to local labor laws.

HV is in a death spiral and GK put the nail in the coffin.

The HR person is on the call and does most of the talking. Your coward manager sits on the call and will thank you for your service at the end.

When the top guy outline for a cut "requirement" ... the next management chain dude asks his/her direct report for a "cut" recommendation.. well, the manager then ask the direct report "manager" for a list of people to cut. In the end, the employee that does the job (or not doing any work) gets Axe! The manager has to protect his own job too. I wondered how many managers that deliver nothing got Axe?

I got axed at the end of Feb. - garden til Apr 30. Applied for almost 300 jobs and rarely got even 1st interviews. That started changing in early Sept. - Finally landed a new role. Unfortunately, came with a hefty pay cut. But a decent job is better than no job right now. Good luck to all of you feeling the pain. You will get through this.

I was laid off a while ago but still have good friends and contacts there. I've been telling everyone for months they need to get their resumes fired up and start looking. This pandemic is only going to get worse over the next 4 months. Companies, even though they need people, will put hiring 'on hold' due to this pandemic. Believe me, I've personally been through it earlier this year and the brakes were slammed on hard back in March because of it.

Be prepared for the long game. And you'll need to swallow your pride and take just about 'anything' to get through this stuff. Use your contacts to get hooked up because getting a job now is all online and it is awful. Truly an awful experience.

You don't deserve this. I didn't deserve it either. But I made it work. You can too. Good Luck.

I hear you get a garden leave through December end. And standard severance of 2 weeks for each year of service. It”s tough time and wishing the best for those affected.

@zde+17vQu9Ad If you get a random one-on-one scheduled with you, then you're being cut.

Any more news?
I am hearing some rumblings but wondering about the scope of this thing.
I am hoping everyone affected at least gets a decent severance to carry them through.

I’m sorry to hear that. I was on that receiving end in Feb.

What is the package, if you don’t mind my nosiness? Ours were slightly more than 2 months of garden leave (till Apr 30), severance based on years of service was then paid out mid May.

Initially, they gave us 3 months of COBRA equivalent, but upped it to 5 months due to lockdown during garden leave.

Hopefully this round is at least as generous. This is a horrendous time to look for a job (job losses are now more likely to be permanent, and fewer companies want to hire due to holidays and election uncertainty).

Best of luck to everyone affected.

I’m sorry to hear that you were affected. My hope is all of us quickly find something better. I’m anticipating receiving the same call. I’ve heard the DSBU is going to feel a heavy impact from today’s round. Wishing everyone the best.
