Thread regarding MetLife Inc. layoffs

Cafeterias

How many offices have cafeterias, versus pop-up or little “juice coffee bars”?

Charlotte cafe, which is shared between several companies and 2 buildings, is closing later this month, to have the “grab-n-go” model from the juice coffee bar.

Wondering if this is the next step to closing our building, or just making it more of a pain for those who still have to go in.

@kwb+1nxCIQH6 it's the same for Cary.

Even BH didn’t come back after Covid. The building is empty. More security and cleaning folks than anyone else.

Judging by the number of quiet layoffs that have been happening in the Cary office, I think they're banking on the State of NC not auditing their employment numbers now that we've crossed the Dec 31 2022 deadline for the tax break.

I hope it does close if it means I can just work at home

Not sure why the down-votes on my post @bob+1nxCIQH6.

All I'm saying is that I don't think reducing the cafeteria is a sign that MetLife will close the office in Charlotte. That office is unlikely to close due to the tax agreement. So what's the down vote? What did I say that you down-voters disagree with?

Could there be cuts? Sure. Provided they keep to the tax agreement (or cheat). Cut and move to India seems to be the name of the game. I don't like it either. But, I don't see Charlotte closing.

Give the counterpoint if there is one.

The company is hurting financially. These are steps to save money before the cuts

Greenville used to have a cafeteria (very small one) and that was replaced with the grab and go model.

Right after we were strong armed to complete the Great Place to Work survey, we got a big billboard notice that the half price lunch discount at the 200 Park cafeteria will be coming to an end at the end of the month. A great place, indeed.

Meh. Not likely closing. Unless the terms of the North Carolina / City of Charlotte tax break are up.

Likely just a result of less demand for the cafeteria.

Not sure how many offices have real cafeterias. Bridgewater has one.
