Thread regarding IBM layoffs

This headline is a lie. IBM didn't say 1%, it said single-digit, it could be 5% or even 9%.

@kse Albany is safe? Management says Albany won’t have another layoff this year (they don’t think).

1%, 0.1%, who gives a flying fu-k what IBM says. If you work at IBM, then asymptotically your gonna be RAed. Unless of course you're one of those greedy executive co-k su-kas. In that case you'll get compensated so much it'll be coming out your a-s. The moral is: if you're not a greedy executive co-k su-ka, update your resume and start looking elsewhere. Sh-t, if you been at IBM long enough you probably need to catfish your resume, cuz those stinking IBM badges ain't worth sh-t!

@Kpr. There will be layoffs as IBM has plenty of plans to keep buying innovation via acquiring SW companies As such legacy employees and most likely consulting will get hit. There is also speculation that IBM wants to just focus on the Fortune 500, and as such everything else will move to the channel and be partnered out. NET NET IBM NA and IBM Europe will definitely continue to shed legacy employees

IBM isn’t lying when they say low single digits worldwide. Where it gets interesting is when you apply the numbers regionally. The 2700 number referenced in the article was dated in Nov of 2025. I would speculate the 2700 was applied almost exclusively to NA thus making the layoff approx 5% when it came to NA. Add in another 1k of acquired new hires (SW purchases like Hashi every couple of months and you are up close to 10-12% of legacy employees getting laid off and the new SW hires backfilling). IBM seems to ping pong the layoffs. NA one time then Europe the second. The net of this is Yes its low single digits per layoff, BUT with multiple layoffs per year they are hitting 6-8k total worth of folks per year and 8-10 K worth of legacy employees per year with back filling via SW purchases

Why would you expect an internal email on RA’s. Any manager with a brain would address the team with the situation.

Btw, managers basically get told 24 hours in advance and provided names.

Weird how we only see in the external media and zilch internally not even a basic email.
