Oh, bravo, corporate overlords—time to round up the Asset Protection (AP) heroes who clearly have the toughest job in retail: mastering the art of remote shrink-fighting from their cozy home offices. Start by identifying those AP geniuses who treat their laptops like full-time spouses—permanently glued to them, churning out reports faster than actual security gets done. Bonus points for the ones who CC six people on every email chain about "notes" that could’ve been a two-sentence text. Efficiency? Never heard of her. Then hunt down the true experts: the ones who stare blankly at a locking case like it’s advanced quantum physics. Can’t swap a lock? Can’t install a security window? Have zero clue how to order a pre-programmed call button? Perfect! They’re your future stars. Why get their hands dirty when they can delegate brilliance? Oh, and don’t forget the MVPs who live to pile extra busywork onto store managers just to remind everyone they exist. “Hey, create a binder! Start a folder! Recount things we already counted twice!” Groundbreaking stuff. Truly justifying that salary. And the classic gem: “Did you know security guards reduce shrink in high-shrink stores?” According to AP wisdom, nah—that’d be admitting guards actually work, which would make the entire AP department look... redundant. Can’t have that. Need a warrant for that persistent banned trespasser who treats your store like their personal mall? Sorry, not an AP problem. We’ve got a mythical “guy” who covers 17 states and promises to circle back in three glacial months. Priority handling at its finest. AP in my area? Straight-up comedy gold. They swoop in once in a blue moon to solemnly verify that locker checks happened, then vanish back to their Teams fortress, confident they’ve saved the day. So, my heartfelt advice to corporate: Track down the actual store managers who’ve slashed shrink in half over the last couple years—without a single AP “consult.” Turns out, some folks with real military or police chops know legal, practical tactics that actually work. Who knew? You can’t fix rampant theft when your “protection” team is mostly protecting their couch cushions and only emerges to play clipboard cop on locker audits. Keep it up, AP legends. The shrink isn’t stopping itself... but hey, at least the emails are flowing.

@a9 Agree 100%. They brought little to no value, everything they did was to prop themselves up to try and look better than then everyone else.

I have head of a few I just wonder about the directors. They literally have zero value. No presence. And sit and do calls all week. They take their time trying to outshine everyone to protect themselves instead of coming up with real ideas. Let’s have every person have to scan their handheld for a bag check but yet AP isn’t even in there for example. Their top leaders are absolute trash.

All quiet on DC side but I wouldn't be surprised if they were saved for last considering how much they shredded DC leadership, might want to keep them around until the dust settles.

Think they are receiving the same treatment as all the other eliminated positions, last minute no mercy from what has trickled down the pike. Unsure of any real numbers for the cuts.
