The Old Badge Switcheroo

Me and the boys completed our first week of the old badge switcheroo. It was a wild success!

We take turns holding everyone else's badges. Then, the one holding the badges goes into the office and scans everybody else in. It works like a charm!

Now, each of us only goes in once per week!

We are already talking about ways to make it better. We are open to your ideas!

@25m no joke, today i saw a guy scanning at least four badges on his way in right after each other...

Me and the boys took your advice. We're trying a less frequent badge handoff.

If this works, each of us will only be in office once a month!

Your Manager should be fired with you for letting this occur.

@ka I think it depends on who is in the buildings. Maybe 10-15 ish years ago there was a rolling project to secure buildings. Turnstiles, manned security desks and badge-in badge-out — this was done at the glass-house and FMCC. Many of the buildings that didn’t house the execs had tons of entrances and exits and so they experimented with more cost effective methods. They started putting surreptitious readers in the stairway banisters/railings, in the door-frames and walls. The surreptitious readers went in at ITEK and the ITHQ buildings as there was a lot of problems with equipment going missing. ITEK did require badge in and badge out to enter the central lobby from the building wings, but the wing exits had multiple surreptitious readers. Several of the buildings between Hubbard and Ford road had the same structure as ITEK before they disallowed exit from doors other than the primary entrances.

What’s the difference? Who cares, if they want to fire you, they’ll just try to make you crack and record the conversations. You just can’t trust this place anymore.

This is one of those stories that sounds good on the internet, but in practice you don’t really do this.

@e1 Which building? It's not PDC, ATNPC, AEC, EVB, whatever ITEK is now, RTCR last I tried it, Bldg 2. All are badge in no badge out. The last badge out I did at Ford was Wixom Assembly, now known as General RV.

Sounds sketchy. Does your building not require badging in and out? Several of the Ford buildings do for this very purpose and for tracking actual time at the site. Some buildings have hidden readers that are reading your badge and company assets (laptops) as they move thru the buildings.

@OP

While I definitely applaud this effort, especially if true, please know that they have already terminated other employees for doing the same/similar.

If this is your initial strategy however, I would personally suggest scanning the badges in at different times throughout the day and not all at once.

Good luck to all.

This sounds exhausting (to have to hand off badges everyday). Why don't you take it week to week?

This place was tolerable when we didn't have to go in the office. Now that we have to, the pay is looking pretty uncompetitive compared to some of our suppliers even if it means we have to go in... This is my last month!
