Thread regarding Global Payments Inc. layoffs

Global/Worldpay Layoffs

We had a crunch meeting today, to tell all staff that all departments including companies they have acquired will be taking lay offs. more than 20 from my dept alone, would be one third.

@f2 it is unlikely that there will be no package just may not be as big as in previous years. The severance package keeps people from suing them for discrimination or wrongful termination. Doubtful that they would open themselves up to that liability by offering no package

@k2 they’ve avoided doing those notices. For one, notice that previous layoffs they were clear that it wasn’t a layoff… no, no they’d NEVER do a layoff. They just do major ‘RIFs’, not a layoff. Totally different.

Then they shuffle employees around, selling them off..oops still not a layoff, even if the end result is the same.

Now they’re considering more cuts, potential rebadging?

Global Payments is a company led by Eels. You can’t expect any kind of honesty out of them. They are dishonest with their customers and employees alike.

GP gets away with not filing warn notices via several ways

  1. Many employees are considered remote. Wfh makes each pwrsons house a site. Therefore they dont need to file because the per site number is over 50 to file.

  2. Layoffs are staggered/ rolling allowing them to once again play the numbers game.

  3. Severence can be provided in lieu of a warn notice. If a certain population is paid severence, it reduces the number and once again no warn notice is required. One item to note is that not everyone needs to get a package. Its a numbers game.

@kd they stagger the layoffs and offer over the min required severance to get around warn

For example in 2024 some people had 2 weeks before they were officially laid off while others had 2 months

@k6 that’s illegal if they aren’t doing warn notices. They need to be reported to the labor board and they should be heavily penalized

@k2 GP doesn't do WARNs, for whatever reason. There wasn't one in the big 2024 layoff either.

I don't see any WARN listings for GP/WP in any state which require a 60 day notice for any layoffs 50 employees and up. So... BS?

Do we know the timeline for the layoffs? And is this impacting all levels?

I am not a liberty to say, but this will be company wide GP/WP and all acquired companies.
