Thread regarding Lumen Technologies layoffs

AT&T or ???

Any new info on who's been identified to move to the "new" company as part of the fiber sale?

Can't imagine a Net tech with any amount of seniority would move over. Networkco being separated from T can only mean no continuation of the pension, a new "unknown " company..... seams like The Devil you Know scenario

CWA or IBEW?
That would be the one right before ceo. I think that was limited as well. Wasn't that around the time of level 3s hostile takeover?

"Lumen has established a program In most states called the Alternative provider solution! In other words if they have cellular coverage the company can send them a Rebate check and shut off their service, they don’t have to have fiber available anymore to shut someone off!"

Why havnt they done it yet then? Or monday morning. Maybe next friday. How about announce a massive layoff monday and in three months complete the layoff and turn every customers off the next day? You must be a bitter ex employee that got canned for being dead weight and now youre rooting for everyone else to lose their jobs too. Makes you feel all warm inside eh? Like youre less of a loser? Nah, you still are. A stain against the good employees who have recently and will eventually lose their jobs. Poor guy, im sure after all the employees are gone youll be a much happier and more successful person. Maybe youll even lose 150 pounds and get off the meds. Keep fighting the good fight guy.

“Who are you, that you would be privy to the disposition of every one of over 800 wire centers in 16 states?”

So tell us. What wire centers have been shut down? Name them. State, city and wire center.

The company has already told District 7 they are planning on full bargaining.
How many contracts ago did they do full bargaining? Maybe 3 or 4 or 5.
Remember CEO comes from non union microsoft. She can't even say union employees. They are hourly employees.

Got a form letter in splicing that said some guys are staying, and the rest COULD be offered a job with competitive wages and health care with AT&T. Prim techs got the same letter. Im in the Twin cities. Job offer will be in an email, but don't know when
Out state techs were told there staying in Lumen, with business as usual. Heard that from southern and northern MN tech.
I got no seniority, So if I don't get a job offer in the next yea I know im done eventually.
As far as broadband and cdts in the twin cities they never got that email. ????

I have not heard of an entire wire center being shut down yet as you claim.

The notion that there a future at Lumen for any Represented employee is the fantasy and the Joke HA HA Ha! Lumen has established a program In most states called the Alternative provider solution! In other words if they have cellular coverage the company can send them a Rebate check and shut off their service, they don’t have to have fiber available anymore to shut someone off!

Of course the company can always file bankruptcy and us that as leverage to get rid of all the remaining pots customers and it’s union obligations all in one fell swoop! Best of luck to ya!

Your response to someone saying there’s a few years work left is saying he’s wrong, there’s 24-36 months is pure comedy.

@jb

You’re making a lot of assumptions here. And I have not heard of an entire wire center being shut down yet as you claim. Shutting down or selling a wire center would shut down the fiber too correct? Maybe a very rural area that has only ever had less than 100 pots subscribers. Lots of regulatory red tape just to turn off the lights and walk away. It is true the company wants nothing to do with copper and would love those customers to leave. The forced move to fiber off copper has been going on for a few years but there’s areas where no fiber is available.
As long as those areas have even one pots subscriber they must be maintained. Personally in my area we have one 80 year old lady that has dial tone off a 900 paper cable. ONE customer. The entire neighborhood has been moved to fiber and she refuses. The puc says we must keep putting band aids on that cable to keep her service intact.
As for the contract, yep, no contract no more work. But unless you have some inside knowledge that the company will not negotiate a new one than you’re just guessing.
A more likely scenario which doesn’t play into your fantasy is lumen signs another 3 year agreement or extends the current one with D7 and sells off the copper plant which will in fact keep net, bb, and cdts employed.

@jb District 7 will vote on the bargaining team next month.
They are planning on full bargaining early next year. Yes. The entire contract is up to discussion. With a weak union, the remaining members will be sc--wed.

No,

there isn’t much in the way as to years left for net techs Ect, maybe 24-36 months at the very most, 3 things will transpire in that timeframe,

  1. the after sale Quantum support agreement expires with AT&T,
  1. enterprise will be up on its financial feet! It like everything else could be sold off.. and even if they keep it, it’s the CDTs who's jobs are tied to that customer base,
  1. so few people will be using copper DSL that it will just become cost prohibitive to even try and provide that service.

Not to mention that lumens entire game plan and future is to get completely contingent on getting out of residential small businesses market as fast as possible!

What you need to watch is if Lumen and District 7 negotiate a new contract this coming winter! Because as of right now the only job security you have expires on march 28 of 2026.. that’s not years!

P.S. in case you didn’t know the company is proactively paying the customers to leave, they are closing down entire wire centers where they have little to no enterprise customers, then gutting and selling off the CO where they can!

Makes sense. Epts are cheaper and they’re a dime a dozen. Hire 10 and 2 stick around to do the plug and play fiber installs. At least there’s a few years left for net/bb techs. Maybe Apollo wants some more copper facs and techs

Some office groups have been told too. Mainly the dedicated quantum fiber groups.

Was told two weeks ago today in meeting with management, that with out question AT&T will only be offering employment to the EPTs.

Then In a roundabout way it was suggested that all the remaining EPTs would be let go and at a minimum half of net techs and broadband techs would be leaving at the close of the sale!

The remaining senior “ techs” are going to maintain the fiber feeders, build out the enterprise network, all while making sure we make a profit off of copper DSL and pots service.. 🙄. My response was good luck with that…

Lumens copper business will be treated like Leppers after the sale. Don't expect much of a contract and get ready for forced adjustments
