Thread regarding Suncor Energy Inc. layoffs

Anything concrete on layoffs?

I'm happy for those who don't care anymore, but I do. I'd appreciate any info.

PM is next. And not like that should make us any more comfortable. Outsourcing is the next wave.

@k6y Can verify this is not happening. BTC are definitely being leveraged, but not in a PM capacity. We have various project teams within EM and anything Oil Sands related, PM function remains on site or Calgary based, BTC may support engineering if needed.

Remember where CEO comes from. His prior employer EM is all about outsourcing. It’s only a matter of time before IT, HR, basic engineering, commercial and sales functions are done from overseas. Now EM is having US and Canadian projects managed by Indian project managers.. you heard that. A project manager sitting in India is managing a project in the oil sands. A matter of time before RK copies that playbook, give all his other acts were also copies of his prior life.

Sharpen your skills and stay competitive.

Unfortunately under Kruger there are no guarantees of employment at Suncor. I even know of field people that left, Electricians, Instrument Techs, Operators.

I’d say Milk it for what it’s worth if you live in Edmonton or Calgary and are just doing the fly-in fly-out, or if you already work at the Edmonton refinery, or Calgary office. If it really concerns you then it is better to look for a new job, remember Kruger endorses a very random process for lay-offs, basically you can be an all star and still be laid off. They don’t consider performance. All they do is decide they don’t need you. They will constantly be looking for positions that are not needed, and if they make a mistake as they have done countless times with the Kruger lay-off strategy so many times they’ll just rehire. This is known as the Freddy Kruger method, very reckless. I’d be more concerned if living and owning a property in Fort McMurray while working at Syncrude or Suncor Baseplant, because if you lose your job up there it’s 10 times worse than losing your job in Edmonton or Calgary because you basically have to sell your home and leave, all while Kruger and team attempt to hire someone outside of Fort McMurray to replace you which is EXACTLY what happened to me. I was laid off after 14 years in Fort McMurray, had to sell my home, had another 20 years to go in my career but was laid off (and later they rehired someone to replace my position ANYWAYS!!!). So the biggest concern for layoffs is living, and working in Fort Mac. If this is you, you can always take the first step and sell your Fort Mac property while looking for a new job. Fort Mac is no place to live under Freddy Kruger. He fails to realize the sacrifices people make when they decide to live and work there.

Oil price declined by another $7-$8 on average for the Qtr which is not good. If trend will continue towards the end of the year we are at the mercy of Kruger's execution again

Under Kruger, he’s constantly got people looking to layoff more people. That’s the Freddy Kruger theme he wants to instill te---r into the entire organization and make everyone constantly fear for their jobs. Some teams might be stretched way too thin by now where they aren’t even replacing, but they are continually looking out for people that they can layoff.
