Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

Is executive leadership deaf?

New mandate from my leader, no jeans, no hats, no tshirts, and no shorts (until after a certain date).

I wasn't aware we were going to be seeing customers in the office. Oh wait we aren't. It would be different if our building wasn't falling g apart, full of mold, constantly under construction, or the air/heat not working. Let's also not forget our desks are absolute garbage and falling apart. Maybe they should give their employees working equipment and a decent setup if they expect them to look like they are ready for a board meeting, let's not even talk about the massive pay cut. They expect us to go buy new wardrobes on 40k salary when people are struggling to fund our VPs lakehouse???

Wake the fu-k up Dell leadership and stop treating your people like garbage. You at least used to PRETEND that your employees were important, OR how about this, throw us all a nice dinner since you are so intent on constantly FU--ING us.

@th That would be more accurate, however that level of accuracy is against Dell company policy.

@e5 Go read it again. I just pulled it up and it's vague af. "business casual" is all it really says and doesn't go deeper than that.

I'll do it for you since it's on my other monitor

For purposes of this policy, unless otherwise stated, the following definitions shall apply:

Business Casual: The exact definition of business casual may differ across culture, geographies, and even business units, but is generally defined as customary dress that is comfortable yet neat.

THAT IS the literal policy.

@e5 Well, you are 100% wrong lol.

The OFFICIAL POLICY is "business casual" but does not explicitly state what that actually is or means. AKA, wear appropriate clothing. It says we can't wear the obvious stuff such as explicit shirts or weird sh-t but says nothing about what DELL considers "business casual."

Business Casual - Defined as customary dress that is comfortable yet neat and can/does vary across culture, geographies, and even BU's.

Sales or customer facing BU's are expected to dress more formal. BU leaders may require a specific and potentially more formal dress code for those team members and is communicated to them.

I wear fkn shorts and t-shirts to work every day. idgaf. my manager is in Ireland and i only stay in office for a few hours anyways.

Uh wut? You must be in sales or something because I wear shorts and a t-shirt to work on the daily lol. Call it unprofessional but who gaf? I don't interact with anybody who needs to be impressed or, am trying to sell cr-p to. I go in with my shorts and shirt, attend a few virtual meetings, then go back home.

@e5 Like how we were hired for remote jobs then forced back into the office? Make sure you pick those boots clean.

@e5 I read the dress code years ago after my boss gave me cr-p for wearing shorts and a ball cap. At the time there was absolutely nothing in there prohibiting wearing a kilt and a fedora. After two weeks of that the boss said I could go back to wearing shorts and a ball cap. I still break out the fedora on occasion but bit the kilt as I dont really have the legs for it.

The is a literal dress code policy that clearly states the rules, how do so many of you not understand what you contractually sign up for when you accept a job? Your manager should read it as their list isn't it. It violates our inclusion and diversity values, you can dress almost however you'd like within the guidance in the policy

Sounds like JC better put the ‘clever’ tshirts and jeans in mothballs and head to Men’s Warehouse.

SOMEONE in HR or similiar...gets to claim this "return to business dress" as their Q2 accomplishment to try and stave off THEIR impending layoff.

They treat you like garbage because they can. They will never wake up. 40K is entry level. Do your job for a period of time and see if you can jump ship to another company and get more money.

Companies do not care about you. They are not your family. The decency you speak of never existed. They know they have you over a barrel.

Dress appropriately for work. If you want to wear shorts, become a lifeguard.

Since there's not a single manager from my BU in the building, I will continue wearing gym shorts and flip flops whenever the weather forcast calls for 80+ degrees. If they ever bother to turn on the air conditioning I'll switch to nice-ish cargo shorts and nikes.
