Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

401(k) investment return

Not layoff related, I know, but am curious what your investment return on your CVX 401(k) has been for the past year and YTD (you can see this easily when you click on the ESIP link from your Fidelity home page).

Suggested format:

1 year return X%
YTD return Y%

Mine:
1 year return ~14%
YTD return ~6%

@zv, check out the expenses of the 'busted' S&P fund. Can't beat the return or expense with anything similar in BrokerageLink.

I am up 70% last year, being %100 in on Gold...not really, but it is a possible outcome. As others have said, there are many sites on the web for those who wish to discuss and compare short- and long-term investment strategies. The common case, however, is that those that lucked out and did well will brag and those that did poorly will remain silent. You might be led to think that everyone is doing better than you, when in fact the real winners long term are those that buy and hold and keep their investing costs low with a lot of index funds and smart use of limited more aggresive oppertunites.

@k1 That’s right. Too lazy to search other sites.

That's all cool and all, but there are many websites with people who post that , have the exact same queries, and compare it and discuss it, and know a lot more about investing. Why are you guys doing it on the layoff site? Are you being held captive? Do you not know that there is life outside of this site?

Fluctuates on a daily basis. If I can only give one piece of advice, it is to treat your pension as part of whatever bond allocation you have. Thing grows at a snails pace.

That's true the Biden administration's inflation and predatory economic environment for all business has come home to roost. It takes a while for 5 to 7% average inflation to set in but here we go. Any FA will tell you the effects take a while to reach the markets. Anemic market returns, reduced buying power all around. Astronomical consumer goods pricing. Goes on and on. Thanks Pres. Houseplant and Kamel toe, from Jose' and Enrico, you gave us a free ride while everyone else pays the price!

You realize the stock market has decoupled from reality and is only going up because the dollar is going down, right? Approximately 80% of all U.S. dollars in circulation were created since 2020.

We’re in late stage empire mode.
