Thread regarding Target Corp. layoffs

2024 Results

What is everyone hearing about Target’s 2024 results and how might that affect layoffs? Walmart had good results but has said they expect a rocky road for 2025.

To home service worker/ @jz+1jmw506b5

Have you ever considered that maybe the reason why you seem think everyone else is a slacker is because you are projecting your own insecurities? Or that, perhaps, you have given these homeowners a reason to feel that you cannot be trusted in their home? So much so that they must sacrifice some of their work time to keep an eye on you.

Or maybe you’re not untrustworthy at all! And it is simply just a bit awkward and impossible to focus on your own work when you have a stranger doing work in your home.

Just a thought.

I don't know which people this disgruntled person is talking about "slacking" but considering my wife puts in hours into the evening; and weekends, and sometimes seemingly glued to her laptop... if anything, WFH and Hybrid (which is what Target is; it is NOT fully remote) encourages people to put in MORE time without getting paid extra. Granted, yes she is salaried, but this is being beyond exploitation. And she has shared that it's not just her but others who she sees online with their "available" light on during the weekends.

The home service person, who has commented on multiple posts, is a disgruntled former Target employee that was let go. Nothing more than sour grapes.

I think if you work at Target and feel you are going to get laid off, get an alarm clock and set it for 8 hours starting at 8 AM so you know what a full work day is. Then teach your 6th grader how to walk to the bus stop alone because you will be working. An learn to leave you house 30-40 minutes before your job starts so you won't be late (yes, you actually have to leave your house). And most of all, figure out you eat breakfast BEFORE you start work.
Enjoy the tip sheet!

The home service field guy is clueless. What field is that? Spraying for ants and then browing craigslist while billing customers for an hour?

Stores have and are currently cutting hours like CRAZY. That guy has zero idea what he is talking about.

The workforce at Target can be cut by 30%. No cuts at store level. These WFH are taking advantage, walking kids to bus stops, starting late, ending early. I work in a home service field and Target and United Health workers are the biggest slackers. Not by any fault of their own, many have never had to "go" to work and put in 8 hours. This will make it hard for them to get a "normal" 40 hour week. Meanwhile enjoy your Starbucks while you ponder work life balance. Cheers!

There will definitely be layoffs with leadership only being reactive and causing short term chaos and a high stress environment

"I'll be gone, you'll be gone" is the mantra of "executives" nowadays as they plan their exit strategy from day 1 to see how much they can extract from the organization (+ their million $$$ golden-parachutes). Ergo, they do not care about fixing the business, least of all long-term.

Either way, layoffs are probably coming. If Target gets a new CEO, they’ll look to make investors happy by right-sizing orgs. If Cornell stays, he’ll be looking to delay his exit a little longer by trying to make the business more profitable. It all means cutting nice-to-haves, and seeing what can be automated or outsourced.

Target has a financially conservative mentality. Survival is easier than investing in fixing the business.

Probably the same as Walmart's results - increased sales and traffic, flat or slightly lower profit and a lower outlook for 2025 due to inflation and tariffs.

Q1 will be interesting with the Forbes article saying store traffic has dropped 10% after cutting DEI.
