Thread regarding Cigna layoffs

Bereavement leave?

Does anyone know what Cigna’s bereavement leave policy entails? Is it dependent on who passes away in terms of how many days off you get?

Fu--ing employees over is pretty standard for large corporations, after working at 3 myself. This is why we should give them as little as possible when they take so so much. Anything less than a week for bereavement of a direct family member is terrible and shouldn’t be normalized as okay. Nor should laying people off when the company is reporting massive profits.

3 days for close family and 1 or 2 for more distant relatives is pretty standard for large corporations in my experience being at a few. The additional 2 days for the primary responsible person is not something I had at past companies. Yes, they could be more generous, but it's not out of line with other corporate company policies. The company is not saying you MUST return in 3 days, but you would have to use PTO.

Cigna has fu---d us on bereavement. My dad passed away in 2020 and the policy then was 5 days off for immediate family plus a sixth if you have to make funeral arrangements. Now it is maybe 3 with maybe 2 more if you have to make the funeral arrangements. This company has no compassion and doesn’t get that grieving workers don’t do a good job unless they have enough time to deal with things. If your kid dies you get 3 days. Maybe 5. if your child dies!!!!!!!’ The new CHRO Kari Knight Steven’s is a heartless greedy piece of trash for allowing this.

If you do go on STD, the 7 days preceeding the start date will either need to be time off w/o pay, or PTO. After that, STD will start and:
∙ If you've been here for <2 years, you will be paid 75% of your regular base pay for up to 25 weeks.
∙ If you've been here for 2 years, you will be paid 100% of your regular base pay for up to 6 weeks and 75% of base pay for 19 weeks (for a total of 25 weeks).

∙ You are able to get 3 days for immediate family (Spouse, Sibling, Parents/Step-Parents, Natural & Adopted Children, Natural & Step-Grandparents and Grandchildren, Dependent Foster Kids)

∙ Furthermore, you are eligible for an additional 2 days are available (with manager approval) if you are EITHER: In charge of facilitating and organizing all funeral details; OR, you will have to travel a large distance to attend the funeral.
∙ Bereavement Days can be consecutive, or non-consecutive.

Additional Time Off Options:
∙ Lastly, you are also eligible for FMLA protected STD Leave if your doctor can confirm that there is a medical condition impacting your ability to perform (this can be depression, anxiety, or any host of medical or behavioral conditions). If you do go on STD, the 7 calendar days (5 workdays) preceding the start date will either need to be Unpaid Time Off, or can be funded by your PTO.
After that, STD will start and:
∙ If you've been here for 2 years, you will be paid 100% of your regular base pay for up to 6 weeks and 75% of base pay for 19 weeks (for a total of 25 weeks).

It’s amazing how people can be thin skinned and stupid at the same time. That combination is a recipe for disaster.

HR/Manager must over been on PTO to be able to address this question directly.

You are a soulless, spineless sc-mbag. OP lost his/her niece and you are using this an opportunity to be a snarky, edge lord bully.

Commenter here. OP- you proved my point.

  1. irrelevant content that’s not layoff related
  2. use of foul obscene language, grieving or not, it speaks to your character, not mine and it’s not ok. Ever.
  3. the time taken to post about your benefits on a third party site could hv been used to 1) actually help yourself via the readily available proper channel/ and or 2) grieve your loss. Sorry for your loss btw.

Reevaluate your actions instead of cursing me out

Sorry to hear about your niece OP. You can find the policy on IRIS. You can get upto 5 days off for a death of immediate family member.

Immediate family includes kid, sibling, spouse, grand parents, parent, partners parent.

For the death outside immediate family - you can get one day off. You will have to discuss it with your manager.

Hope this helps.

OP here. For the record, my niece just passed away so I figured I would ask here because this isn’t something I’ve dealt with before and I’m devastated. Your response to my very simple question is disgusting. Sorry my question isn’t layoff related, you are still a di--head.

Hopefully you’ll be laid off and you can whine about it on here you tw-t. Hopefully someone tells you to shut up like you just did to me.

How is this layoff related? Why post this here instead of looking it up on company intranet? Genuinely curious.
This site used to be layoff related and really helpful. It’s turned into a complaining ground of unrelated and not helpful content with name calling, foul language and fear mongering. Downvote me, but that doesn’t make vile language ok.
