A store HR lead has filed a grievance on behalf of a 73 year old store associate, stating the store manager wanted to burn her out with an overworked, undesirable schedule to get her to quit. The HR lead says they were told to work this associate closing shifts, long shifts, and some short closing shifts under 4 hours, with an early morning opening the next day. The HR lead is also claiming the store manager would work shorter shifts than associates often leaving early or arriving late, they claim
that the store managers supervisor (regional) told the store manager they have “free reign” over the store and can do whatever they want to. This is a blatant case of age discrimination, favoritism, abuse of power, and in violation Belk’s own supposed code of ethics.

Turning a full line belk store into a clearance outlet that is final sale and looks like Goodwill is essentially closing stores.

Belk managers were told to purge any associate that did not fit the new hire criteria just after covid

Duplicitous in deed and actions. Have always been like that until called out and then watch the immediate flip flop and denial as they throw whomever under the bus.
OTOH, since Belk has had several notorious legal suits filled against it for age violations, I am skeptical if this is a totally true story?
That's one situation any company wants to stay far away from as it can get very expensive. Perhaps this is embellished?

BTW, where are the dozens, no hundreds of store closings many have said would happen? This year, last year and just about ever since the buyout?
If half of what is read here is true, get some lawyers, they will work for free in pursuit of money! Sue them.

All this is very real, except the heroic character HR lead. Either she was Okayed to do this by people above regional or she has a job lined up somewhere else.
