@t3 your understanding of a RIF is too narrow, seemingly based on a high number of employees being involved. A RIF can occur due to a reorg, regardless of the side of the reorg. The point is it’s an involuntary loss of work for the employee and a reduction in the employer’s workforce.
@t3 they paid them off! If for performance, then no need for that.
@gy I’m a bit skeptical that this was a RIF if it was only one person. A RIF (reduction in force) does not usually result in one job being eliminated. A termination of employment is done on the ones. I know of people whose employment was terminated for performance, behavioral issues, poor performance etc, who claimed they were laid off or riffed. Just cautioning everyone to have discernment..
