Thread regarding Devon Energy Corp. layoffs

“Everyone wants to move to OKC”

This is what is being repeated in the tower. How accurate is that?

@103 You are correct . . . I did mean tornadoes. I've lived in OK and TX so I can speak from experience . . . OK is a miserable state with low opportunities in meaningful O & G upstream companies. You've got the two privates in Mewbourne and Continental and Expand (stupid name) on the gas side. The rest are those with subpar acreage and assets. You must live in OK as your unknown "jeet" comment must have something to do with red dirt and me-h?

A few people from both sides have accepted to move. At the end of the day, money talks. It all depends on how much they offer.

@OP It's 100% accurate. Everyone longs for the taco bar at NEBU. Come and get you some.

@jq No one wants to move from the oil capital of the world to a dying O&G city and state that has terrible schools, terrible poverty, one professional sports team and don't forget about the annual hurricanes . . .

@j9 I don't think that was their point. The point was that only 10% of the people in either office might be willing to move. I bet WPX and Cimarex had similar numbers when they packed up and left Tulsa for OKC and HTX, respectfully.

@a5 do we need 70 more accountants? Probably enough in the tower anyway.

I would gladly go to OKC, and know several other people who would, but also know a handful of others who would rather take severance than go there.

Fun fact: everyone who wants to be in Houston is already there and everyone who wants to be in okc is already there.

There are roughly 70 people in HTX accounting and from what I have heard, maybe 5 have indicated they would consider moving to OKC.
So I would guesstimate that 10% is the ceiling from any department.
