What happens if you are laid off while on leave? How do they notify you?

@jp at Oracle, parental leave is not job protected leave. They make that very clear.
Typically, those on any kind of protected leave would not get impacted as at least in the US the ( https://www.dol.gov/agencies/whd/maternal-health ) they would need to be given the same or similar position. If you're entire group was let go, then they could probably make a case that you were not targeted, but if they kept anyone in your group you would likely still have a job when you came back.
The FAQ that was posted on Slack said they likely would notify impacted employees on leave the day they returned.
In general, unless your country labor laws specifically prohibit companies from doing that, then the company can layoff anyone, including employees in maternity leave, in mass layoff - as long as the company is not targeting anyone employee group (age, race, on paid leave, etc.)
Without knowing in which country you are, it is hard to say.
In some countries, it's pretty bad for employers to do that, so they don't until you return, ideally for a bit after you return.
In other places, there are less employee protections, so you can be dropped anytime.
