Recently retired from Carelon/Elevance after many years. On retirement submissions commented "ready to retire" and "unfair hiring practices"! Never in all my years did i witness what is taking place in the COB department! Not filling vacated positions by frontline associates (the real workers); giving those positions along with high level positions, for a team created to do redundant recovery department work; VP stating no high level positions offered to Frontline operations but again filling said positions for the newest team; VP attempting to throw good workers under the bus for making "premature" announcements of promotions approved when she herself gave the "green light"; VP too often plays favorites, writing up folks for no valid reason and NOT writing up those who should be; VP doesn't listen to her teams concerns, only taking into consideration the "newest team" which in fact is comprised mostly of former employees of outside Recovery vendors, filling those high level positions (director, Mgr Sr., etc, no internal high level promotions offered). Multiple conversations have been had with the VP, HR, legal entities, to no avail.
Guess I exited in time because with no actions taking place i might have been "fired", "written up" or "forced out.
It's a good thing I left when I did because

I regularly see postings for PI, which is a big red flag. In a townhall a few months back, one of the presenters alluded to layoffs in PI likely sometime this year.

I have worked in COB (Coordination of Benefits) for many years, and I would strongly advise others to proceed with caution. The current Staff VP overseeing our area has been, in my experience, the most ineffective leader we’ve had. For the first time in over 20 years with this company, I am seriously considering opportunities outside the organization.

Unfortunately, this leader has demonstrated a lack of integrity, frequently playing favorites and showing a fundamental misunderstanding of COB prevention. The program—which many of us have spent years developing—has been severely mismanaged. Recovery work is being prioritized while prevention tasks, which our clients specifically pay for, are left to accumulate in queues. If our clients were aware of the current imbalance, I genuinely believe we would risk losing key accounts.

There have been multiple concerns raised internally, including formal complaints to HR and even legal consultations regarding questionable hiring practices by one of her directors. The environment has become increasingly toxic and ethically compromised, leading to the departure of several experienced team members.

My advice: Think very carefully before pursuing a role in COB under the current leadership structure.

CCA is a hot mess in PI. I 💯 agree it’s the Directors and the Staff VP leading the destruction and their teams are a reflection of poor leadership. The managers are overly frustrated 😣.

@jf this. 💯 agree. That staff VP and Directors are really good at blaming everyone for their shortcomings. Not sure why JP is blind to this

I’m looking for new opportunities…it’s just a zoo everyday in PI. It’s a disaster like everyone is saying.. I can attest to it. Leaders are not nice and don’t work well with each other and the market managers are ridiculous to work with.

Carelon Payment Integrity is the worst mistake of my career. I dread everyday in CCA. I dream about new opportunities and moving away from this company. I’m praying something comes soon.

Stay as far away from anything Carelon/Elevance. Current leadership is running this company into the ground. They couldn’t care less about their employees and will lay you off in a hot minute despite working 80 hours a week and having impossible expectations. Not to mention Directors and Staff VP’s who are flat out incompetent. Someday karma will get them and Gail for the toxic culture they have created here.

Carelon Payment Integrity is a dumpster fire. I would NEVER recommend anyone to this Org. It’s a waste dump of poorly organized solutions that run like garbage but not by their own demise but by a drought of resources, complicated FTE funding, prehistoric platforms, aged technology, aged processes, lack of funding and don’t ask for funding or FTE’s because you’d rather pick a boil then go through the hoops it requires. It’s a war zone everyday.

Do not work in CCA in PI especially DRG or HBA it’s a train wreck..the Directors are awful….I feel bad for their teams no support or competent Directors…frequently given inaccurate information or simply have no direction to give and pass whatever the issue is along.

If I could leave Carelon Payment Integrity right now I would. There are some very nice folks but the resource strain, lots of wrong information floated around, and endless work arounds makes me want to just quit and work at a local hardware store for now it has to be more peaceful then this toxic place.

Carelon Payment Integrity is a complete disaster. It’s a complete mess all around. PI is about 5 years behind the 8 ball. Between system issues, lack of funding for resources, strained teams waiting months and months even on backfill roles, poor leadership. What it takes for green lighting and snow cards are absolutely brutally insane..nobody can keep up with it. The AI push and new cards to monitor key goals is the most ridiculous micro managing by the Executive staff. The survey results were pushed to the Managers to pretty much take the company wide backlash placing it on their shoulders to fix.

Carelon Payment Integrity especially CCA is a mess. Directors are incompetent and don’t how to lead their teams, give extremely incorrect information leading to large mishaps but they also have a Staff VP that has no idea how to lead anything but DRG and ingrosses herself in contract negotiations that the VP should be handling…while she might be nice she’s not leading her Org to success.

@c4 previous threads stated that it is a mess. Not sure which parts or what the details are (management, systems). Asking to see if anyone can share details about their experiences good or bad.
