Thread regarding USAA layoffs

Horrible management

This place has the worst management I've ever had the displeasure of having to deal with in my more than twenty years long career. Is anybody competent ever promoted here or do requirements for managers include being incompetent at your job but very competent at kissing the right butts?

Jessica Will is a bully. She thinks she's the greatest thing USAA has ever had. She isn't as great as she thinks she is. She shows favoritism. She's a horrible manager. She's actually a "witch with a B"! Try not to ever work for her if you can help it. She just needs to go back to crunching numbers. She's a joke!

I think part of the problem is the leadership “school” they put management through. Seems more like an alignment school to make sure you align with the USAA way and drink the koolaid. I was hired just a few months ago and I am hopefully leaving pretty soon.

Used to work there over 12 years and maybe 1 or 2 times had an actual leader. Management is trash, doesn't care about the employee or mission they love to tout. Can't change grown adults.

Agree with 360 reviews and intervention to also include Directors. They make 2-3 times more than us, that’s where the cuts need to be. Either make them retire or redeploy them to a non-management role. It costs more to replace quality employees and those are the ones that will leave. It’s interesting my toxic director favorites the under-performers because they are the same.

Upper management needs to implement employee reviews of first line managers again so they can weed out these bad managers.

There used to be something like that called 360 reviews or something similar.

It’s insufferable with my insecure, controlling boss too. I can’t ask any legitimate questions any logical person would ask because she just gets bitchier. It’s like walking on eggshells. I’m taking a paycut in so many ways by working for her. A good boss is priceless. We deserve better.

My manager couldn’t even do my job! How can you properly manage someone when you have no clue what you’re managing. Then due to I guess her own insecurity, everytime you corrected or questioned her you suddenly got “audited”. USAA gave me terrible PTSD with jobs and management.

USAA is by far the worst experience I have had in my professional career. I was recruited from another company that I had been with for 12 years, only to be laid off 1.5 years later at USAA. I had a very successful career prior to USAA, but this place is ridiculous. I did an excellent job while at USAA, but a new director decided to take credit for everything I had done since I got there. This new director lied his way into the job and never had any type of management experience prior, just one big con after another. I did notice that USAA pretends to align with regulatory compliance and let go of most of the seasoned risk professionals. The last I heard, USAA said they had overinvested in their employees. What a joke! USAA deserves every fine they get.

I have worked for several companies in my 30+ year career. USAA is, hands down, the worst company I have ever experienced. Many times since I left I have been contacted about joining again. My only answer is a resounding, "He!! NO".

At the frontline level, I only has 1 manager that was clueless. Further down the line it got a bit worse.
