Layoff risk at after the May 2026 earnings call

Information from the extensive deep research:

My base case is that a broad, post-earnings layoff announcement is unlikely, but selective reductions, tighter hiring controls, or reallocation out of slower-growth teams remain plausible. On the evidence available before the May call, I estimate the probability of any publicly visible layoff action within roughly 90 days after the call at 25%–40% (medium), with the probability of a broad company-wide program above 3% of headcount at 10%–20% (low). Confidence is medium, because the company’s operating trend is clearly improving, but it has also shown that it will still prune selectively even during periods of rising revenue

Less than 5% layoffs is hardly significant compared to big tech. But why mess with success in terms of an all time high stock price? The earnings call was all about the analysts falling over each other to congratulate “management”.

@tb this is the underrated issue with Cisco. So so many people I’ve found and collaborated with only for them to get zapped out of existence. Meanwhile management persists and gets promotions.

I started this role with total dedication, but my 'hustle' faded once I noticed the revolving door. It’s hard to stay driven when colleagues constantly vanish without a trace or a word of explanation

@pq is it company wide, or targeted underperforming departments?

Until you prove it, you just another panic/pranker anonymous user.

@pv I'm not saying I believe him but he could be speaking of the materials you receive after your phone call. It's entirely conceivable those could go out on the 15th even though it's a day for me. Again not saying I agree with the guy.

There are no mass layoffs planned this quarter. It’s all fake news. August quarter is still a maybe but nothing confirmed now.

The day after is the storm. Then the day for me on Friday. Great days for some, bad days for others. If you've been warned, it's coming. May not be this one but there will be a couple of follow ups so if you've been slacking you better have been looking for another job. Working hard one or 2 quarters won't save you.

They seemed to have pulled in the reigns about 6-8 weeks ago. Travel restrictions, no new equipment, recs pulled, all pretty standard inside Cisco. But they also ki-led our budget of "fun money", so no group lunch after a release, no token award after the release. This is pretty unusual from my experience, so I'm not expecting a blow out quarter. I think there will be the targeted LR across the company. Come August, the LR will be deeper as per the usual annual Hunger Games.

Everyone I'm around in the US is numb to it. We all know LRs happen, it will eventually happen to us, but keep working and try to ignore it. It certainly doesn't help productivity.

The India team is another story. They are managed by intimidation and constantly under pressure. All they ever say upwards is "Yes sir". Excluding the Mgs and top developers, there is a constant turnover of team members; I suspect people leave for better opportunities, not LR.
