Thread regarding Cigna layoffs

Corporate culture is humiliating and oppressive

We are blackmailed by livelihood into submission. We all know the state we all are in. We are fully aware and experience on a daily basis the toxicity in a workplace. Majority of us have no respect for management. We know that performance, hard work, loyalty, and responsibility mean nothing in the end. We complain to each other, but never voice our concerns and react openly about all attempts by a company to squeeze the last drop of energy and will we have, then discard us like spent office supplies. Kudos to those who had courage to speak up at Town Hall. May not change everything, but at least we made leadership uncomfortable, and we may be spared next time the humiliation of listening to corporate bullsh-t while our livelihood is on the line.

“Said the master to the slave, be glad indeed you and you give you water to drink, for I could ki-l you like one of the bad masters.”
Of course it could be worse, but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t demand it to better. 8 years ago Cigna was much much better. So those of us who have been around long enough know it can and should be better.
Those of you saying su-k it up it’s a job, work hard, you are a brainwashed Uncle Tom. Work can be both productive and pleasing. It is no longer like that here so we are more than justified complaining.

@izf+1tscXWit no one is forcing you here.

I would 100% rather do 5 days of at-home work. That option is not available due to Cordani's preference. Dragging me into an office makes my life worse and provides no benefit to work output.

So, I make the best of things and await the special moment when a co-worker talks to me. Until then, I will occupy the empty hours as I see fit.

Thanks for the advice but I will pass. You are right, I was hired to do work. Did good work for many years. But then I was told no. Come into an office the majority of the time. An office without anyone on my team.

But it was not about productivity. Cross-functional collaboration, spontaneous hallway conversations, and company culture was the stated focus.

I tried. I really did. But alas, the random strangers seated nearby didn't seem to be interested. I tried wandering the hallways, but was unable to generate any discussions with passers-by.

So I am forced to operate those days in standby mode. I await the opportunity to meet the goals of in-office attendance. I need to remain on high-alert for any high-value opportunities so I won't squander time doing ordinary work. That's saved for at-home days.

Since Cordani dug in his heels about the mandatory in-office days, this must be the approved approach. If he wants more than two days of work, it'd be easy to return to that status. Happy to adapt as soon as it changes.

Employees are trying to take action by being vocal. Not everyone has the liberty of jumping ship on endeavors they worked years on, although you bet most people are looking elsewhere.

They WANT people to quit, they want attrition which is why RTO was performed so abrasively.

Staying in a place that makes you unhappy, complaining constantly but taking no action to change your circumstances? Sounds like one to me

Gotta love the people on here commenting about how to "grow up" and how people rightfully upset at being taken advantage of are the ones who maybe put 2-3 hours of actual productivity in a week over two days while spending the rest of it twiddling their thumbs in meetings.

If you have such an easy job that you can do NO work for 3 days a week, I don't want to hear any complaints. You are absurd

Also to add to my previous post, I am in all favor of flexibility. But the CEO of the company has made few things very clear. He wants to run his company a certain way and I am just an employee. So long I can make it . I will keep working here. But not really feel crabby everyday that it eats my soul away.
Being so angry hurts yourself than anyone else.

It’s more full of people who can’t take ownership of their own circumstances. We are all independent people with agency. No one is stuck. Stop letting life pass you by being miserable!

@nwc+1tscXWit, waste time in office ? Why ? May be you are rich and have generational wealth or prolly you have no family to take care of. If you have that amount of privilege, then just quit your job so it goes to someone who truly needs it.
What kind of weird mentality is this? You are paid to work . And if you are so unhappy about everything just leave. Why do you all keep bi--hing everyday.

I don’t feel humiliated.
I don’t feel oppressed.

That you think Cigna is either of those things tells me that you’re young & naive, that you’re a malcontent, or both.

I’m no fan of some of the things going on at Cigna, but c’mon. Oppression? That’s ridiculous.

Accept it happily and move on? What kind of fantasyland did you come in from? What is there to be happy about?

It is my mission, and has been since the return-to-office mandate, to waste as much time as I can. I literally do zero work on my three full days each week.

So, for the organization primarily concerned about money, they are working in opposition to their goals.

Guys is a company after all and here to make profits . Vitality ,flexibility and other benefits are always frills which can be taken away . It’s not a non profit organization. Please understand that . We are end of the day earning money and don’t mistake work and colleagues as family. Your work, business , ELT,HR etc are all part of your work life . Don’t let it stress your mental health. If it’s taking over you, please take some time off . But you can either go this by cribbing or accepting it. Just accept it happily and move on.

I totally forgot how easy it is to "quit today" and start a new gig tomorrow. Maybe if you are going from McDonald's to Burger King. Not quite the case with most office roles.

But again, I'm sure you already realized that.

Ah you're right, totally forgot Cigna is the only employer giving out one of those j-o-b things so you're stuck with em!

Genuine answer - thanks for the offer! Please post your bank account details so I can switch over my bills. See, I won't be able to afford to live without a job.

But I'm sure you already realized that.
