The labs org seems to be pulling back from open source and who knows what all else. I am a senior technical person, technically a manager in the org even tho I supervise nobody. 5 years of service. I was laid off, notification by webex meeting, last day on payroll 24 July. Affected many people in my department, I am not the only one by far.

Jeff M clearly said in his town halls and written email. AT&T is too expensive and inefficient in developing software (we can debate if it’s true or not). The goal is to use vendors for all software development and support. AT&T will not have much internal software R&D.

All of that.... it’s basically a story of being penny wise and pound foolish, sadly this is now the AT&T way.... the gave up defining future offerings and profits to obtain immediate cost savings....
Seems like a an interesting group associated with innovation. What's the issue high salaries? Not enough output?
A couple of years ago the foundry’s were considered a crown jewel by AT&T leadership for their innovation. Sad that they were shut down...
The Foundries worked with many emerging technologies, with internal Orgs and external companies.

A few former colleagues I know also got told they were surplussed in that same Webex meeting. They cut work on Acumos, Big Data, etc. I heard 40% in Mazin Gilbert's org.

Mazin cut was roughly 40%.
@OP Thanks for the report, though sorry to hear it. Any idea about the percentage cuts under Mazin or the Labs in general? (Some data may be in the ADEA documentation they give you)
