At Allstate, if you're good at what you do, others WILL see you as a threat, and make it impossible to move up. Chances are you will end up working for someone who really should be your assistant and you'll have no way of changing that situation. It's frustrating, to say the least.

The place is run by a bunch of clueless executives and leaders. I have no idea what the vision is or where the company is headed. The CEO sometime says that we’re a tech company now. They’re selling cr-ppy warranty plans on certain products. They do a very poor job with their customer service for such a large carrier. They only seem interested in the commercials and being on the net at college football games. The way the employees are treated is just brutal. No bonuses I may also add. Just an aging, mediocre, gigantic mess.
I love working for Allstate, I work about 15-20 hours a week max and get paid for a full weeks work!!!!
The response to the person who quit and was upset tells you everything you need to know about these people. They aren’t worth your time and aren’t at all appreciative. The same thing happened to me as the prior poster where I tried to nicely quit and they refused. They’re clearly a very dysfunctional bunch with no direction.
You are correct. Not just a threat but used to make the leaders look good and dumped on with extra work that really doesn’t get you anywhere. The trick is to network outside your department and make friends to be able to move up.
I wish they had been a bit more forthcoming in the states they do not write allstate home paper. When recruited from SF and after beginning found out we write home like a broker with specific other companies without multi discount on most

I've been lucky enough to have a few good, caring managers at Allstate. People who encouraged me to develop and gave assignments that gave me visibility and let me get promoted. Ironically enough, three of them have been RIF'd or farmed off to vendors-which is how Allstate rewards competent managers with any level of integrity.
The rest of middle management are basically go along to get along and SVPs on down reward that. Don't even think you're going to do anything that will be new or different or get you noticed because with the a-s kissing and covering, it will be like firing bullets into a giant, ego bloated sandbag. They'll make sure you're minimized and not noticed because that'd be a threat to the tenuous hold they have on employment.
As to running with the 'Big Dogs', well; enjoy that delusion even as the market puts a pin an your unjustified ego on a near daily basis. There's a reason why this former 'Big Dog' is the fourth one in the pack and slipping fast.
It says a lot about a company how they treat you once you give notice. Allstate’s approach is to have you dismissed immediately without consideration of a two week notice. They also won’t pay you for the two weeks. They treat their people horribly. Go anywhere but there.
I’ve been able to move up the ladder a few times in my career at Allstate. Took a few tries to land a role with a manager who genuinely cares. Definitely considered leaving multiple times due to either toxic or non existent managers. If you can find the right role with the right type of leadership it’s definitely worth it for the work life balance. Unfortunately that appears to be a very rare thing here.
While I'm sure that is true in parts of Allstate...its not all of Allstate. And it's true I'd say across most companies of a similar stature to Allstate. If you want to join the work life balance is excellent, you can get more money at other places so it depends what you want.

Allstate is a tremendous opportunity for marginal managers, directors and even VPs! They come in talking a big game, create endless “change” / chaos, and gets bigger job elsewhere. All in roughly three years! Best example is the former CHRO. Shoved in a half baked Workday solution, outsourced hey HR functions… and peaced out!

Good managers that want the employees to succeed are rare here at Allstate. You either get a toxic manager or someone that wants you to succeed so they can take credit.
