Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Woods Forum. Pivotal moment?

I’ve been thinking about the employee forum on October 20th and have come to the conclusion it is a pivotal moment in the history of the company. Woods could either save or destroy the company based on how he handles things. I expect unfortunately he will follow the same old script and we will see resignations accelerate after he speaks. What do you think?

Must be tough for the guy to prepare to lie to Congress and to employees at the same time.
He must be rehearsing his answers and telling his face not to show contempt.
His coach must have had enough of his tantrums, so cut him some slack.
His unappreciated genius and his ego can only take so much.

Unless… he’s prepared to announce he’s retiring “for personal reasons”, you know to spend more time with his RSUs and cut back on his company jet travel. In a normal company he would have already be fired or had the decency to resign, but in xom - it’s all a charade where we all pretend they are not lying and we pretend we like them. #weareexxonmobil

I think the pivotal moment occurred about 2 years ago when Dallas decided that every non manager had to pay for their years of “risk aversion”-based decision making and selfish ladder climbing. Thousands of talented technical staff were forced out to let them keep their RSUs. Let them eat cake…spoiled cake that is.

@igc - That is an incredibly ignorant statement. Our vertical integration is what drives value. Our chemical company is one of the largest in the world by revenue, but some older plants are fourth quartile in performance and would be shut down by anybody who didn’t own the entire value chain like we do.

It’s all a joke. If you don’t want to hear / address the real concerns of employees in real time via Slido then what’s the point of having a forum at all? More talking at people and telling them what and how to think vs. listening. Just checking a box. Not real leadership by a long shot.

At some point they’ll spin-off DS, midstream, and chem. Maybe as a package, maybe individually. This same action added a lot of shareholder value for Marathon and COP. The days of conglomerate are over. Individual companies are better able to manage their own businesses. Shareholders can optionally invest where they want, or hold a basket of securities that’s the same as they had before. No more cross subsidies like now, and EMRE will have to sink or swim on their own value-add.

Perhaps the intention of this forum is to continue to expedite the attrition. Until the attrition is reached to what the mgmt. wants it to be nothing changes. Enjoy though 3rd personal holiday.

Trust is gone. After gutting engineering we will never be able to replace the competency we once had in the short term. Eliminating bad division managers, department heads, dtl’s,Emre, group leads and sls will go a long way to better the company then DW can leave is the only chance this company has. Once we cut 10-14k more employees xom will merge with Chevron and perhaps the ship can be salvaged with better leadership. God help us all. Most importantly take care of what matters most which is your family because xom won’t. Those days are gone. 1 year contracts from here on out. I have worked along side some of the best people ever that were like family but I don’t recognize this company anymore. These are truly the dark ages and I don’t see very much light at the end of the tunnel unless Chevron can restore that team philosophy back. Darren can never restore that. Why would they do what they have done? Xom management knows the only shot they have of saving this company is to let someone else run it.Think about it, they have to know morale is at an all time low, folks are leaving by the day. Cutting folks in order to merge is the only rationale explanation. In the gulf coast site, resignations and early retirement’s are coming. Less than half of the engineers will be left and they are trying to combine disciplines on the ones that remain. I’d expect a lot more UCLs over time and for longer periods Roll the dice as to when it will begin. As for me, I’m also divorcing myself from this toxic waste pit. When management with less experience and bigger egos calls the shots there is a problem and the damage is done.They have run the ship aground and she is leaking badly. And you know what’s the sad part- even if Darren were to resign/ be sacked, there’s another manager like Darren to lead this company, which speaks volumes of our leadership development.

Dallas leadership is racist and unfair to emoloyees and is the core reason of failure of ExxonMobil.

In today’s global world, these are dinosaurs that need to go if at all the company needs to do well.

European accents and mid west/ texas cowboys run this company, not merit based leaders. Throw in forced female and color diversity in middle management and thats it.
