Home Based locations

I'm seeing some people's location as home based and remote. Does that mean they actually live over 50 miles away from a hub or branch and considered remote?

Yea, RTO and 3 days is a scam.

My department lay off a bunch of people that were not part of the hub.
Then I found out 30 percent of of people are still remote. They use the excuse everyone needs to be in office for team building, but you still have a lot of remote people and they do their job fine, no reason for them to be in person as no one even notices. RTO is just a scam to lay off people or force them to quit.

@dt Thats not always the case. I have a coworker who was in a hub and moved and is now remote. Its really up to your manager and maybe upper managers to approve or not.

I have a team mate that moved to a new state a few months ago and they let her switch to remote. Her salary went down so they also promoted her to make up for it. She was an average employee, not bad, not great. The rules are not the same for everyone. Exceptions can always be made if your management likes you enough. This is how corporate America works. My best advice to survive and thrive is make sure your management chain (at least 3 levels up) knows who you are and wants to keep you. I know, easier said than done.

@ht people can work with their managers and HR to get a non-medical exception as well as a medical exception that exempts them from RTO. People aren't just not going in because they have a handshake deal with an upper. They are writing people up for not going in, and they have let people go for not complying. I hate it as much as anyone else but let's not make it seem like there are backdoor deals going on for people to stay home. If someone isn't badging in, there will be consequences. This place doesn't care about productivity. They care about your a-s being in a desk 3 days a week above all else since we all know they'll miss revenue goals like the Vikings kicker misses field goals.

@ht Agree - totally shady stuff going on. Like the bully VP people leader in GA who was considered remote and got promoted to SVP and an expanded role, while other remote employees were denied even lateral moves because of their remote status.

There are a lot of side deals and double standards percolating through various departments, as many employees have the in office locations attached to their profile but their side deals that are adequately documented excuse them from RTO. There are some interesting double standards where managers are full time work from home however their directs are pegged as hybrid subject to the RTO requirements, which the manager is unable to offer any relief on.

The RTO debacle is a symptom of much more serious leadership and bank culture concerns that are destroying a once proud institution from the inside out, while the better managed and operated banks (some larger/most smaller) continue to pick and choose which relationships they want to pirate from the listing hulk known as U.S. Bank

@en That's interesting. First time I've heard of them changing someone's work location in the system for an ADA remote work accommodation. From an operational standpoint it seems logical. However, USB prioritizes exploitation over logic, so this reeks of subterfuge.

I have a similar situation that I can't say much about without being exposed, but I'll say this much -Document everything. If you don't have the entitlement to forward copies of related communications/documents externally, insist HR provides you with copies either via mail or sent to your personal email address.

@en Yes, exceptions can be made under certain circumstances, such as medical, but moving outside of the "boundary line" won't update your RTO requirement.

I have a medical accomodation and got changed to “home-based” this week, but it’s only for the duration of the annual accomodation. In previous years, my profile just kept my hub name.

@dm I really hope you didn't move in the hopes of gaining remote status. They'll let you quit before they give someone a newly designated remote status.

@dm They won't change you to remote after the RTO decision.
If you lived outside the mileage cutoff before RTO, you would have received that designation. Since you moved after the determination was made, they won't change you to remote. You could move 80 miles away and that won't change the requirement for you to be in office.

@b6 I know that I am on the chopping block. I live 30+ miles away and would not commute in even if given the opportunity. I am planning my exit as we speak - expanding my network, upskilling, cutting expenses, padding my savings, and of course applying for jobs. Just cut my severance check now. I already know the outlook is bad for remote employees outside a hub. Our days are numbered.

It means you are 30+ miles out, and were either grandfathered in prior to 2022 or were hired as an exception post 2022. Either way, in 2025, there is a target on your back and the company wants you gone.

@OP I am over the 50 mile radius. I work for the Home Mortgage part of the bank. There is a bank branch located near me but not required to use as not enough available room for the like 70 of us left.
