All the young never been in a union want one. Union dues new expense coming out of your check. Then the fun of seniority guess what all you newbies get the shaft. Good luck getting PTO days you want.. And the work shift you want sorry young guy you get what nobody else wants. Then at layoff time you get bumped by higher seniority too. Then you have the useless union steward in bed with management. have fun. Never gonna happen since if you cant put you hand on the wellhead your job going to india at some point. Union only works where employee has to be onsite.

Chevron is already struggling with cost credit competitiveness and competency gaps when compared to peers. Throw a union on top and you've got a target rich environment.

Jumped to the independent/private space. Would love to pick over the scraps once Chevron cries uncle on these assets.

So, you are faced with an "ever decreasing standard of living" and instead of getting off your b-m and doing something about it you expect someone else to change that and do something for you. That's the root of the problem. Until you accept that, you will remain as you are, helpless.

MW is barely qualified to tie his shoes. All he's qualified for is to lay people off (anyone with even part of a brain could do that) and hang out with his buddy Cramer. He needs consulting help for the layoffs on top of that. He's destroyed the company.

This is absolute hogwash. The union has no say in who the company hires unless there are contractual stipulations (e.g. calling back laid off employees).

I have seen several unions in action in the energy sphere here in California and have never known anyone to have issues getting hired through the hiring prices, which the company sets.

Unions were mired with preferential treatment to family members and close associates. This was a common issue in the 1980s, and it persists today. Today's unions represent a variety of workers, including firefighters, police officers, dock workers, merchant mariners, electric transmission workers, meat packers, car manufacturers, transport workers, and sea pilots. Try getting a fire-fighting job and you will learn how great unions are. You will quickly find out that to become part of a union, it helps to either be related to someone in leadership, marry into the family, or be willing to perform favors for those in higher positions. If you meet any of these criteria, you may find it significantly easier to get a good assignment or earn a good salary.
So if you have reservations about MW, it's important to at least acknowledge that he is qualified to discuss the company's trajectory. In a unionized environment, your leader might only have a high school diploma but may behave like a know-it-all.

There is the IFPTE, International Federation of Professional and Technical Engineers, which could be an option.

They represent the like of PG&E, NASA, TVA, Sprit Aerosystems, and others.

Unions are not a ridiculous waste of money.

They are imperfect and sometime inefficient, but they are the best method rank and file employees have for protecting wages, insuring salary increases that at least match inflation, maintain benefits, maintain pensions, vacation time, etc. they also give an effective avenue to engage with management when rogue supervisors pull stupid sh-t. If the company does move foreword with layoffs, the union can negotiate how that is approached and outline that in the contract, it does not have to be first in, last out. You can also get protections that give you right of first refusal is the company begins hiring again.

They do cost you some of your pay, but they give you so much more power over your life in return. And, oh, btw, the base salary can be negotiated higher to cover those dues.

I fully support a union.

Field personnel are unionized in California, at least. Not sure about other locations.

What would be the best union to represent other functions? And do we need multiple?
