When applying for an internal mobility role, is the current manager typically informed during the interview process? I’m trying to understand how confidential the process is, as I want to avoid any impact on my current role if I’m not selected.

@vt You have the investing acumen of a toddler.
Enjoy investing $0 or in Pyrite "Gold". ROTFLMFAO! 🤣
Internal mobility is fraud. They already have a favorite candidate. They just interview you for the documentation purpose to save their a-s from labor department or the immigration department. They also also post in the local job boards or local news papers. It's all SCAM!
@pa
yup, excellent analogy
the US corporations and economy keep smashing into icebergs
either they are high or blind (or most likely corrupt)
Check with the hiring manager or HR if they have a candidate lined up or they are interviewing somebody from hiring managers previous connections. Talk to the hiring manager and see if he encourages you to apply or says something like “you are a strong candidate. “ Only let your current boss know if you proceed to the second stage. Also ask HR who is on the interview panel to avoid the embarrassment of your boss or his boss showing up.
@pa LOL Tell me you know nothing about investing without telling me you know nothing about investing.
Unless you're Quitting and cashing out your Citi equity compensation today, it's going to be as worthless as Lehman's and Bear Stearn's stock tomorrow because Layoffs, Hiring Freezes and giving Low-b@ll salaries to new hires desperate job seekers (which fuels Citi's vicious cycle of hiring Incompetent, Low Quality employees who can Not fix Citi which fuels the vicious cycle of Consent Orders, operational and tech FVCK Ups ad infinitum etc.) results in a fleeting bump increase in stock price and is NOT sustainable.
But enjoy your CitiTitanic. Keep believing Executive "Management's" narrative that Citi is improving and "going to be alright".
This is what the Hapless souls of the Titanic were told. Most of them remained on the Titanic or jumped ship or boarded life boats too little too late.
Getting back to the original posters question…..
I’m sorry you don’t have a relationship that allows you to be open with your current manager. I always felt like Citi was a combination of hundreds of small companies. Your experience depends on where you are.
As a manager for 10 years, I saw many of my direct reports grow and move on. For me, that meant I succeeded as a good leader.
But back to your question, I was never notified by HR if one of my directs posted out. I was contacted a few times by hiring managers for feedback and fortunately I never had to give any negative news.
Good luck and stay positive. Please don’t be influenced by some of the negative speak on this post.
@hr you got me not HR, I’m your ex manager. I’ve been waiting patiently for you to show up on this board having nothing better to do after PIPing you and 5 other slackers. Unsurprisingly productivity in the department has soared along with my equity compensation as Citi stock has almost tripled since Jane launched Project Bora Bora.
It's doubtful the poster is from "Citi HR".
Citi HR is not involved the the day to day supervision of employees and employees' work.
IT is most likely one of Citi's thousands of Sociopath, Psychopath As$Hole "managers" who's had 50% + of his employees Quit in a 12 month period whose Nerves were struck.
Tell me something without telling me something. The Sociopath doth protest too much, me thinks!
@g4 I sorry I have trouble repeating stupid things you say. But I’m pretty good a profanity. Shame I can’t use it here.
Yours truly,
HR
LOL! FLAMO ???
At least spell profanity correctly.
Oh yeah. It's "Citi HR", Incompetent, flummoxed, feckless, hated and vilified on this and other Internet sites.
@fq anyone who posts ROTFLAMO in a post is
A) most certainly not
B) emotionally immature.
Signed,
HR
Who is it? Names please or at least initials.
If that's true, but it's not, I learned it from the Sociopathic, Psychopathic AS$Hole "manager" who's had 50% + of his employees QUIT in a 12 month period!
ROTFLMFAO!
It's the CitiAS$ylum! LOL!
@bd hi HR here! I took time from my busy weekend to check in on this board as is my wont. Can confirm the poster is a bitter malcontent. Fortunately we PIPd him months ago but he still shows up here as he’s been placed on a do not hire list impacting his job search.
@cy based solely on your post, you seem like the unhinged sociopathic party in this instance.
Yes, HR contacts your manager but only when they are preparing your offer, it’s not in secret, they tell you they are going to do it.
You manager shouldn't have a problem as is the almost the only way to get promoted.
I've managed several teams and never had any insight into an employee posting unless they told me themselves. HR can't manage the day to day work they already have.
LMFAO ! NERVES were struck !
Maybe you're also a Sociopathic, Psychopathic AS$Hole "manager" who's had 50% + of their employees QUIT ! LOL!
My manager trashed me to the hiring managers Out of Spite and Malice, even though he may have actually wanted me to QUIT AND INCREASE his Turnover/Attrition Rate from 50% TO 80% because his other employees also have One Foot 🦶 Out the Door 🚪 ! LOL!
With "managers" like these it's NO Wonder Citi is perpetually in the SH!TH0LE it's been in for decades and on the brink of Bankruptcy!
@a8 do not flatter yourself. Your manager would probably prefer you to move on than retain you only for you to be disgruntled. Your comments make little sense
@a3 True and correct. Even though the HR Recruiter probably will Not tell your current manager that you're interviewing for their list of roles/jobs, the hiring manager will most likely contact your current manager(s) to ask for their opinions, positive and negative about you.
I've had this experience at Citi. My current manager trashed me to the hiring managers for at least 3 different jobs! I was literally in the final round in each of those jobs.
The hiring managers' decisions to ultimately not give me the job offers may not have been entirely based on my current sociopath, psychopath AS$hole manager's negative comments about me since the other managers I've had at Citi gave me positive reviews/comments, but the sociopathic AS$hole's negative comments certainly did Not help !
I've moved around internally to different departments within Citi, and Trust me. The hiring managers DO contact your current and past managers, even thought the HR recruiter may not do so.
When the sociopath, psychopath AS$hole manager has 50% + of his direct reports/employees Quit within a period of 12 months, the problem is the sociopath, psychopath AS$hole manager!
I should've known and gone with my gut feelings Before I accepted a job in his team/world. When I was applying for internal jobs, I noticed the same hiring manager had 4 to 6 open jobs/requisitions. This is Not a good sign at any company. This means high turnover and attrition, whether voluntary (Quit) or involuntary (Fired or Laidoff). Just as companies/hiring managers are looking for red flags in job candidates, so too should job applicants look for red flags!
Depends on the function. There are some functions where there might be conflict of interest and the manager gets an alert every time you apply
It’s confidential to a point. Once you have an offer in hand, you’re required to tell your current manager. Technically they’re not supposed to block the move but in many cases they try to drag out the transition process as long as possible.
They would be and they would block it and then take revenge...telling out of my personal experience.
Your current manager is not informed. If you progress far enough in the process and speak with lots of people, don’t be surprised if it eventually gets back. Most managers aren’t je-ks about it and have been there
