Thread regarding USAA layoffs

Layoffs Coming to Member Protection

Expect there to be layoffs June/July in Member Protection aka Fraud, Disputes, and AML first like operations.

Rumor has it most will be in the Fraud space as they over hired when the old guard went out and the new guard came in 2023/2024. I imagine it won’t be the overpaid cronies they brought with them from BofA, Citi and the like.

The senior leadership team (Bashore and his directs) is very clique-y. There is no loyalty if you aren’t part of their in crowd.

@1k2 I think it was all his directs and their chief of staff folks and yeah they didn’t even broadcast it or send a recording so it was just fun time for them in a fancy hotel basically.

And if you haven’t noticed they’ve moved multiple EMG to remote that weren’t 2 years ago. Funny how they get that approved but not the folks doing the actual work. They should be ashamed of themselves.

@1dy because I walked into the Omni room with her. Also knew of a few male directors and above who were regulars at hotels around campus. One even had a “side” apartment across the street.

@1ha How many people went to that meeting last year? It wasn’t even on Zoom. Also, how do the EMG get to work from home and we have to go into the office? Not cool.

@1ce Both, I’d say. I think anyone in that org paying attention could easily figure that out. These EMG have no self awareness about the shadow they cast. And open secrets are just that…OPEN. People talk and trust me they are talking a lot.

Got to love the posts that are so obviously from HR or Management trying to figure out who is posting accurate information so they can retaliate. That should tell you that what’s being said is true. Nice try….

I hope someone is holding that senior leadership team accountable for spending so much money on travel. Most of them are all remote and they site hop constantly, flying here and there for strategy sessions and town halls. They take chief of staff people with them too. Don’t even get me started on the offsite they did where there is no site last year. Like wtf, who does that. They don’t understand what it means to be a good steward of our Member’s money. They are not like us!

The leadership in the bank is terrible, Jamie Dimon would’ve cleared these current EMGs in the bank out and he would’ve never looked back!

@19x not sure why the down votes for you, guess it’s USAA management doing it. But this is spot on, this one EMG was a frequent visiter during her lunch time at the Omni Hotel across the highway in San Antonio, ask how I know.

@j5 Is it funny or sad that I can guess who they are by your description?

@19x No way! How do you know this?

@j5 management having inappropriate relations with subordinates or direct reports is nothing new at USAA (or any other major company). Pre-Covid, the hotels around the San Antonio campus, USAA management were their biggest customers Monday-Friday, especially during the lunch hour.

@j5 WOW! Crazy! How do you know so much about this? Who’s the person with the inappropriate relationship?

Sure:

USAA’s banking fraud, AML, and dispute functions are at all-time highs in 2026.

@j5 probably shouldn’t be spreading unfounded rumors about inappropriate relationships.

@d1 they’ve done a great job turning things around to be honest. It was long overdue obviously and I think them coming in was the right move and I like some of them that I’ve interacted with in some degree. I don’t think they are out to get anyone or only take care of “their own”

The Bank of America crew was in regulatory he-l before they came over to USAA, and they brought their inept ways here. True Story!

Wouldn’t surprise me. Bashore’s directs are a circus. The female directs…one is an unchecked royal bi--h that terrifies people, one blows everything up like the sky is falling and the third one fawns all over him it’s embarrassing. The male directs….one obviously does whatever he wants and has no sense of urgency, one just sits back and when he does speak spouts bs but actually does nothing, and the other is good at his job but is in an inappropriate relationship that they all know about. Guaranteed none of them will be impacted just us “little guys” especially if you’re a legacy USAA employee.

@hq this post is specific to anyone that rolls up to Bashore in the reporting structure in the Bank.

Not saying that these upcoming layoffs won’t impact other LOBs in the Bank or other areas in the Enterprise. Just that this group will definitely be impacted by the next round that is coming this summer.

I don’t think the change these big bank folks have brought in are bad. They’ve improved so many things and the proof is in the fact that we have lowered our fraud losses. However, it does feel like they take care of their own vs the people that were already here and were under the orders of the old executive leadership. It just seems like if you worked here before they showed you’re not as valued by them and it shows so this would not surprise me in the least.

I work in member protection I can see this happening. There are also leads who came from BOA they both su-k why do we want you all if y’all don’t know fraud. We spend time having to educate them but they want to change everything.
