Yikes

Kinda sounds like they might get rid of almost everyone at Windstream.

@hx if the ILEC is the only one making money, it’s because the “ILEC” mentality of those in management that destroyed the entire business model of the CLEC’s they brought in. KDL was a cash cow. All employees regularly got extra bonuses at the end of the year when we had good sales years, which was every year I was there. Windstream bought them and promptly fired as many as they could, including those who kept our costs down like internal installers and splicers. KDL went from having a splicer within a hour or so of an outage to using one contractor for the entire state and taking 3-6 hours. On builds, there was no wait on contract splicers schedules.
But KDL employees also had a different mindset in that the field employees did whatever it took to move things forward. 24 hour day? Ok. 80 hour week? Ok
ILEC side, they bail as fast as they can.

So should I work on my resume and job search or focus on my company projects? Seems management is telling us nothing that you do matters and you should be ready to move on at a moment's notice. Or am I misreading the tea leaves again

@OP

Yup. Sounds like all cards could be on the table. It must be ki-ling the former inside leakers that posted on here not knowing the inside scoop like they once did from their bar buddies.

You get RIF'd, and you get RIF'd, and everybody that isn't part of the good ole Gunderfan's gets RIF'd!

'At least the new CEO is telling everyone who's left that their time is limited' - wow do I feel motivated

@j2 some of the management at Windstream does do anything so I’d say it would only take one good Uniti manager to do the work of ten Windstream managers lol

Uniti had less than a thousand employees

Windstream had more than ten times that.

Unless you think every Uniti employees is going to be doing the work of at least ten people, then no, you're probably not losing your job to one of them.

Duplicate positions? Sure they exist. Uniti was a REIT. If I was in accounting or legal? Yeah, I might be worried.

But if I was one of the id--ts who posts on these boards regularly like a field tech? No, there's no one coming to take away your job fixing the wires in bu----k arkansas

@hq ILEC is the only part of the company making money. They offloaded a bunch of CLEC expense to the ILEC business unit to try to make it look more attractive when they were looking for a buyer. Every potential buyer came in and after taking a closer look at the books and seeing the subterfuge backed out.

Wholesale also makes great margins but they are relatively small and have little impact.

@hq mmmm don't bet on that, more like a merger of CLEC and ILEC. Still lots of cuts are coming

@h1 first off, the ILEC will be spun off. Period. It’s a boat anchor.
Keeping Uniti employees over Windstream is gonna happen for sure. It happens every merger. Worldcom slashed the MCI jobs and there was no one qualified left to run the company

At least the new CEO is telling everyone who's left that their time is limited unlike the previous clowns who lied through their teeth on a daily basis.

'Duplicate positions will be eliminated' - was this followed with Synergy Savings - yeah never heard that one before, have you?

Duplicate positions will be eliminated with preference given to Uniti employees I'm sure. There are a lot of leadership positions that I think are short for this world. I believe JS is only still in Kinetic as long as it takes for Harrobin to get a handle on it then he will probably be let go for example.

@aj Ah sh-t that’s right. Yeah, I sat in on the town hall yesterday too. It’s a shame because I think the big cheese might actually affect some positive change so that might even be someone I’d want to work for. But if I were Uniti, I’d definitely fire everyone in Kinetic B2C sales — salespeople, directors, trainers and all and start from scratch. That’s the only part of things I’ll speak on since that’s my side of the house, but I’d definitely consider a scorched earth approach if I were in his shoes.

Duplicate positions and work flows will be streamlined. No avoiding it.

@ac ceo says layoffs are definite. Windstream employees are 2nd to all Uniti employees so likely cutting most of the Windstream employees by January 2026
