Thread regarding Boeing Co. layoffs

Boeing essential?

None of the work the majority of us are doing is essential, especially not at this time. Not for defense and not for the economy. Safety guidelines will be nearly impossible to follow.

It is very unreasonable to continue such work without further anticipation of this pathogen. By not continuing the shutdown until May 4th, Boeing is only putting their workforce in danger.

News alert, they already have had their essential employees working this whole time at the factory and now they are acting as if it is safe for non-essential employees to return to work as if they override state proclamation.

On the contrary, most of us actually value our health and safety more than money. This isn't just about you either, this is about your family and everybody.you come.in contact with.

OP here. Glad to see a lot of you care. Sad to see that some of you don't. Anyone comparing this to the flu is clueless and uninformed. This is far more dangerous and far more infectious. I know many of you do, but for those who don't, please have some consideration and stop disregarding the facts. @kwf

Take care, be cautious, and stay safe. This is something none of us have seen or experienced in our lifetime.

Thank you all.

@1kes Yes there are “free” lwops. I’m not sure where you work but in Everett our manager said if we don’t feel safe we can take lwops all day long and not get dinged for it. Bad thing is I can’t afford to do that.

@1rpv You don’t HAVE to go back to work. Free lwops. Stay home if you want. Bust into those savings.

Geez, these comment sections turn into true dumping grounds huh.

No, Boeing is NOT essential, right...?!but the Government thinks opposite so get back to work.
I'll try & wrap this up as succinctly as possible......Boeing is considered "essential" so all who work there will eventually need to report back.Paid "suspended ops" isn't going to last much longer.I'm paid for suspended ops right now, I'm not a troll. We all need to go back on Wed., apparently ....we'll see what happens, right? Inslee extended lockdown 'til May 4th, Boeing's a different entity though, they will do what ever they can get away with. Let's see.

Stay safe my friends

You all just want a reason to get paid for nothing. Either get back to work or don’t get paid. And to the guy talking about slaves.. don’t even go there kid. You wouldn’t know what a slave was unless you went back in time over a hundred years. To all of you who complain and whine about Boeing just quit. Yeah that’s what I thought. Bet you won’t.

I for one will be returning to work . I have obligations to pay my mortgage and feed my family. I will do this knowing I will have to take precautions on my own. They were not in place when we left and rest assured they will not be in place when we get back. Boeing is a cesspool, There is little social distancing if any, Oh you may separate for a time but watch the hoards come and go. You handle everything from computers to tools and everything you can think of to do your job that shifts or crews before you have handled. with Boeing going back to work there should be no reason in this world the rest of the state cannot resume normal operations, And absolutely no need to social distance yourself, The reason is we will spread this beyond the imagination because we have to work we are essential so they say.

For all the people that really want others to go back to work, none of you have even tried to explain what is so essential about building a boeing plane right now. No one's traveling, airlines are cancelling new deliveries and the MAX isnt even certified. Boeing's situation is a joke. And 5% is a high number for fatalities of a contagious disease. So im taking the buyout ASAP and i think most smart people are with me. Or at the very least we know that TV isnt 2 words

Dont tell me to go back to work if you can't even figure that out. Go back to school

As someone stated earlier, they really have no idea how many people are really infected. They aren't testing everybody so the mortality rate is waaaaaay lower than media says. Also, if anybody dies of a heart attack, cancer, or any previous ailment but has the virus in their blood it counts as a corona virus death.

So let's get the country back to work. If your afraid or sick, stay home and collect unemployment.

Those numbers aren’t right. Yes it’s 5% now but a lot more people have this than what is being reported. Most people have zero symptoms. If you have mild symptoms they just say stay home for a few weeks. You don’t even get tested. So everyone needs to stop freaking out. IT IS JUST ANOTHER FLU!

The situation here in the U.S. has been made serious due to incompetence.
South Korea and the U.S. both had their first case on the same day.
The outcomes could not be more different.

The level of Stupidity can be directly measured by looking at the death rate

https://www.usnews.com/news/national-news/articles/2020-04-04/us-sees-deadliest-days-as-coronavirus-deaths-top-7-000

The U.S. death toll from the Corona virus surpassed 7,000
This Saturday 04/04/20 as the country recorded its deadliest day.
Day Ain’t Over yet

Health officials report nearly 278,500 cases of the corona virus in the U.S.
and more than 7,150 people have died.
On Friday, the death toll rose by 1,161. New York, the hardest hit state
in the country, also saw its deadliest day, with 562 deaths, about one death
every 2 1/2 minutes.

The state has more than 113,700 cases and 3,565 deaths,
with 2,624 of those deaths in New York City. Gov. Andrew Cuomo has
repeatedly sounded the alarm on the situation in the state, pleading for more
medical supplies, particularly ventilators.

More than 15,900 people are hospitalized in the state,
including more than 4,120 people in intensive care units,
requiring ventilators, life-saving machines for the most critical patients.

The governor said at a news conference Saturday that
the Joseph and Clara Tsai Foundation and the Jack Ma Foundation are
coordinating the shipment of 1,000 ventilators from China, where the virus
originated.
He also said Oregon Gov. Kate Brown made an unsolicited offer to send 140
ventilators to the state. He praised the move as "astonishing and unexpected"
and described it as a smart attempt to contain the virus before it spreads
further across the country.

We are one week behind New York, seven days to impact

The Spanish flu pandemic which caused 50,000,000 deaths worldwide, remains an ominous warning to public health. Many questions about its origins, its unusual epidemiologic features, and the basis of its pathogenicity remain unanswered.

The R0 of the Spanish flu was estimated to have ranged from 1.4 – 2.8, with a mean of 2. The mortality rate is calculated at about 2%.

Honestly this is not good.

@ppn Yes, thank you. And as they've said repeatedly, the worse has yet to come. Here in the United States it is skyrocketing. Those comparing this to the flu are absurd. The flu has a 0.1% mortality rate with an R0 of 1.3 compared to the Coronavirus having a 5.3% mortality rate and rising with an R0 of 2.5. not only deadly, but contagious. People really need to take this seriously. This is unprecedented.

Let me show basic math ... you divide the number that has died by the number infected!
59,200 (deaths) divided by 1,118,000 (infected)= 0.0529. Now if move the decimal over to right TWO times like I said before you get your percentage... 5.29%!!! Maybe you should take the VLO and go back to school!
