Thread regarding Boeing Co. layoffs

Are you considering it?

I'm just curious, how many people here are considering taking Boeing up on the voluntary layoff offer? I'm still on the fence, but I'd lie if I said I was completely disinterested.

I'd also like to know what will happen If not enough people volunteer? What are the chances of that even happening?

So many misconceptions on this site. Not even worth bothering with posting the actual reality. Losts of jealous outsiders and disgruntled internals. Oh well, enjoy life either way.

I disagree. I think the VOL will be offered to almost everyone who isn't a new hire, and many people will accept. Maybe not enough to prevent some layoffs, but I don't think there will be a massive layoff yet. Maybe in several months if this virus is still an issue and the MAX still hasn't been recertified (big surprise). I could be wrong, but as of this month I don't think things will get too extreme yet regarding layoffs

@1epo That is not true. The people likely to take the VLO are the old timers. They don’t risk involuntary layoff because they are at the top of the seniority list. I see a big layoff coming :(

Calm down that was not that funny. I know slow people like to laugh at their own jokes but seriously calm down

“Fair Enough”

Do you represent Boeing Management 0r
Do you represent Union Leadership (and I use the term leadership Loosely)

It seems to me if the Union wharf rats could persuade the rank and file
To abandon ship the rats would have more to eat.
It seems to me

Fair enough, but if not enough people accept VOL you risk an involuntary layoff with no severance and benefits package. Or even worse getting sick. I know im going to take it. Im not going to risk getting myself or my family sick for a company thats not even delivering planes right now. I better look out for myself cause I know boeing sure won't look out for me

If you would have asked me 6 months ago, I would definetly have said yes. Now, with recession/depression possibly in play, I’m not so sure. It’s hard to walk away from a high salary in the midst of turmoil. The offer needs to be substantial for me or I’ll just hang on til 65.

We don't know what the offer will be. If it's like the last offer of 1 week of pay per year of employment, what does that calculate out to? Employees have lost several years of retirement income in their VIP / 401K accounts over the last month. 1 week of pay per year of employment means nothing - small benefit compared to everything that's going on....

take a chance to lose 6 months of medical coverage without rehire date not a furlough on a voluntary layoff they don't like you you won't be called back furlough means keep you job vlo no guarantee

That's a good question. Im absolutely taking the benefits package. As for if not enough ppl volunteer then there will be involuntary layoffs. With this "new reality" Boeing is looking to get rid of a lot of people. At least 20,000 probably more and Boeing estimates that only several thousand will accept the VOL. But a lot of retirement age people just took huge hits to their 401k especially if they had a lot of Boeing stock. So there might be more of them staying than expected. A lot of interesting things are going to happen in the next few months. Im interested to see how this all goes down

I am absolutely considering it. I have something I can fall back on if I need it. Plus unlike most my house, cars are paid for. I have been putting my OT money to go use
