Some of you were lucky, but my former coworker and a good friend was laid off last year and is still looking for a new job. He’s not doing anything wrong. He’s competent, knowledgeable, and hardworking, but he just hasn’t had any luck. He’s changed so much due to stress he’s barely a shadow of who he used to be. So please, before you start boasting about how great layoffs were for you, think about those who weren’t as fortunate.

I think a lot of people who have worked there forever know the severance will be decent. They assume they will find another job fast and can pocket that cash. Sometimes it happens, but right now it’s tough out there. I too know people who have been looking for a year or more.
@hh In 2023, I offer ed myself up for layoff, but management refused. 3 months later, yhe increasing stress finally got to me. The ensuing financial hits were nowhere as hard as working for Centene. But yes, layoff would have been a blessing. Word of advice, start cutting back now and saving as much money as you can. It seems inevitable that you'll be leaving Centene one way or the other.
@hh+1jx02ye3c I get what you mean, but it also speaks to how miserable feel having a steady income. I don't think they mean it to be insensitive.
It blows my mind how people come on here and say they wish they could get laid off. Like offer yourself up if you want it so bad. I hope your friend is okay and praying that they find something that makes them happy and provides them what they need, both mentally and financially. In Jesus name, amen ❤️
I would hope no one was bragging about being laid off. The economy su-ks. I think management is extremely difficult emotionally on everyone and has people stressed. I understand the venting and frustration as a lot of people are exhausted expressing frustration without any relief. I hope everyone finds peace at work and finds a job that offers positive leadership. People spend more time working than anything so it should not be a difficult thing to ask for a peaceful work environment. Peace of mind and new opportunities for everyone searching.
I empathize with your friend as I was apart of the infamous Oct. 2023 lay-off. I couldn't land a role for about 8 months, and had to just take the first thing available just to make ends meet.
Although Im not in my professional, and still looking, I dont have the mental stress this company gave me. Just MY experience, here.
I wish him the best and will be praying for him.
I’m so sorry for your friend the job market is so hard now. I am friends with someone who was part of the 2023 layoffs and she just found a job in January this year. I hope the perfect position comes along for him as it did for my friend
I am praying for your friend to be offered a job soon. One where they will be glad to accept, and in a workplace where they are content and energized to be a part of.
In Jesus' name.
Amen!
