Thread regarding Kemper Insurance layoffs

The Layoff Happened

I am not sure who all was let go, but it was over multiple departments. No one was given any notice. I am just in disbelief after all these years. Good luck to everyone

@hfgo calling someone a mole when it had nothing to do with them is childish. They have both been in the industry for many years and are far from miles. The way Kemper handles the calls may not be the best way, however, it’s an HR decision and they have the employees tell those that are on their team. It’s standard with most companies. Sadly, those under Duane get the backlash for decisions Senior management makes. Joe is gone and Kemper can try to rebuild back what he destroyed!

Pathetic Psychopaths, its not just Kemper. Insurance companies' management do not care about their employees, adjusters. Its all about egos, entitlement and their stupid "titles." Trust me, It's all insurance companies. One of the job descriptions for the management is to be a "psychopath." If you do not have this quality, you cannot survive in your positions. The adjusters pay the price, until they don't. Really sad...

Of course they wouldn’t lay off the mole, Lance Hutchinson and Mark Lucca. They are puppets of Duane Sanders. He can’t even deliver the message. He uses his mo--s to do it by video. Pathetic. Get out. It’s toxic. This is not how other companies work.

Worst company that ever existed.
I was with Kemper for 20 years and remember the good times. However, last couple years were chaotic and Kemper is going down definitely.

Unbelievable how they treat employees here. Get out if you can! Toxic environment and uncertainty of what’s really happening with this place

Kempers leadership team is the worst leadership team assembled since the Titanic. Kemper needs servant leaders, like they had when Don Southwell was CEO. Joe and Duane are slaves to their egos, and are a joke to the industry. Duane should’ve been left on the retirement couch and Joe has become what he got fired from Allstate for. If you’ve worked for Kemper for less than 5 years, I would bail……..more than 5 years, I recommend staying and getting the severance. Joe and Duane are not going to be able to right the ship and their will be more layoffs.

I was part of the layoff with Kemper Wednesday. I’m more pi---d that I got a pre recorded video instead of a phone call. And then say I can apply to a different position unreal.

Each of the 4 layoffs since Oct 2022 have all be recordings, although the company always says it is a lie. There has been no rhyme or reason as to who they keep, who they let go. No loyalty whatsoever but they demand it from employees. Those who are so called lucky to keep their jobs are stressed and scared to see a meeting maker.

They let go of a liability director who has moved around the country for them but kept Sr Managers in other departments that don’t know how to do their job.

What do their customers think of all these layoffs? Do they have confidence at all about their claims.

Maybe I’ll be next?

Joseph P. Lacher (CEO of Kemper) total compensation for 2021 was $8.8M. In 2022 it was $7.9M. I was there for 3 years so getting 3 weeks of severance so I have a hard time feeling he was sincere in his recorded message making more in a year than I make in 130 years there.

The meeting tomorrow will probably just be an update to advise everyone of what happened just like the 3 before. It doesn't seem like there was any rhyme or reason to who was let go, just like the last 3 times. I'm actually happy to not be on pins and needles or worry about when or if the big cut is going to happen.

I completely agree. To put in so many years, it's disheartening.

So abruptly laid off… via video pre-recorded call with someone rambling to check personal email (if they have it on file) for layoff info or it will be snail mailed to you! Zero actual respect for years of hard core work in a tumultuous, insecure environment.
