Thread regarding Open Text Corp. layoffs

Still unemployed

After eight months, I'm still looking for a job. I had a few promising interviews just to get ghosted in the end. I'm lucky because I have plenty of savings to be okay for at least another year, but I know so many folks who are not so lucky. These layoffs destroyed so many lives.

@xa unless you work for an SMB, no company cares about their employees which is why Wall Street and Public companies want to replace employees with AI bots as fast as they can. ELT and Board are just doing what the shareholders want so they can keep their jobs. Once they are unemployed, unless they have accumulated enough money to never need to work again, they will change their ways. In the meantime we all need to be looking to leave OpenText. Other than the people, nothing good is left here.

Be willing to consider taking a contract..it often opens doors and pays your bills while you continue your search.
If you haven't already done so, on your LinkedIn profile flip the switch (visible only to recruiters) that you are looking. They filter on that list first..and they will start to reach out to you. Re: the 'looking for work' green banner on LinkedIn..honestly (IMHO) I have never known anyone who that banner worked for..but this is a personal choice I guess.
Also, up your networking game, old colleagues. Alumni groups, friends, neighbors. Tell everyone you know you were laid off. It happens literally to everyone so we can all relate..and people will not judge you for it. That's the Tech business.
Pridefulness can be very expensive.
People are willing to help if you let them know.

The board (Tom J) cares more about AI bots than employees https://www.forbes.com/sites/johnkoetsier/2025/12/30/ai-proof-your-career-in-2026-make-ai-your-ally-not-your-enemy/

@hf there are a lot of managers that care about their employees, but they can’t do anything with the ELT and Board just looking out for themselves, implementing hiring freezes, not approving any pay increases and reducing benefits. ELT should be replaced with AI not entry level employees. Imagine the expense savings!!!

Hey, hang in there. We’ll get through this. Times are tough, but we have to stay positive and not let negative thoughts take over. It’s difficult right now, but I’m confident this will pass too. Best wishes to all of you, we could all use them.
As for OpenText, what can I say? I’ve never seen a company show so little care for its employees. It’s truly disappointing. The real issue isn’t the hardworking employees, it’s the poor leadership culture and ineffective middle management that create these problems in the first place. When leadership fails, the entire organization suffers.
Remember, it’s not you, it’s the systemic leadership decisions being made. They’re forcing low ratings and looking for flimsy reasons to justify cutting talented hard working employees so they can shift more roles to lower‑cost regions. Several of my own team members were let go without any real justification; the only difference was their location. For the company, it’s all business, nothing more.

Try temp. or contract work for the meantime.
Something is better than nothing, and it certainly beats dipping into your savings.

Don't forget, it's poor leadership that caused them. Keep a positive outlook, keep up with the tech and industry, and all will work out.
