Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Next week notifications

Anyone know how things will go down next week for people in scope? Will people be notified via Teams call? Or will they lean towards doing it in person starting Tuesday?

@ha it’s not the rep’s fault.. I think that was the point of the post. The process is inefficient. Why not just have the job owners pick the people instead of the facade of a rep

@h1 if job owners don't like you, it sounds like you either didn't do a good job learning new skills or keeping yourself visible in a positive light. I've got this one coworker that has a well and widely known reputation of just being awful to others. So is it any wonder that some job owners don't like certain people?

@ha, yeah lol, this should be called the "it's always everyone's fault but mine" site.

@h1 is it the selection rep's fault you weren't on anyone's short list?

Typical Chevron to have the inefficient and pointless process of having selection reps and job owners when only the job owners make any decisions at all.

The rep does all of the work and shops employees around but at the end of the day, if the job owners don’t like you, you are SOL anyway.

I bet they do it like a factory. One call notifies you. Next call debriefs you. Next call schedules next moves.

If the number does turn out to be large, it'll probably spill into Tuesday. Super stressful for those who don't hear anything one way or another on Monday.

Been through this many times in my career, including getting laid off once. It's a traumatic day for those fired, awkward for those who are retained. It takes a while to get over it, so don't count on any work of any consequence to be done for a couple weeks. Those still in the office will spend their time around the water cooler (or I guess now, Starbucks) debating whether it was right or wrong for so-and-so to get laid off, and thanking their lucky stars for their own close call.

I was told by my rep that we will be told on Monday either way and to stay home. I'm sort of expecting one of my coworkers to lose their sh-t because that 1 coworker is unstable even in the best of times.

What if you stay home but surround yourself with friends and family for the call. It could be like a watch party. Get snacks, big screen TV

Terrible take. If you're emotionally unstable don't go to the office next week and then go drive home after getting laid off. Stay your a-s at home I don't want to be a victim of workplace violence over this sh-t.

never take the Teams call from home
go to office or some place remote to take the call
at least after receiving the news, you can go home and feel safe or calmer
taking the call from home will leave a trauma and associate the negative feelings of layoffs with your home environment

@af Being that most are still working from home , I’d guess teams call for the notification. Especially if the goal is to have them all done by end of day Monday , presumably so the folks left standing are not in the office raising you know what. As far as who notifies , we’ve been told it’s the selection rep either way but again that was just the guidance our team got. Good luck to you all , at least the end is near good or bad and everyone can move on.

They’ll do it virtually. Takes all the emotions out of it and isolates everyone so they can’t see everyone else crying

How will notifications be made, what is the intent of having us work from home on Monday but business as normal on Tuesday, and what makes them think things will be different Tuesday? This makes no sense. Rumor is everyone laid off will be told to not come back but last day on the payroll is July 17. Also, those left standing will be called into the office and those with jobs will not. Lastly, job owners will call if you got the job, selection reps will call if you did not get the job or if they are also the job owner. What's the current guidance? Please, a manager, chime in here since we know you want to but cannot say in the office yet.
