Does anyone know of any reductions or layoffs coming under CTXO / platform infrastructure soon? With Classic being retired by the end of the year, what are they going to do with a lot of teams under Platform Infrastructure?
Recently, a Director from a classic team was fired, and a new VP was appointed by kicking off the existing VP.
I've been at USAA for more than 30 years and am wondering if it's worth waiting for laying off or looking for another job outside. Anyone from management, please give some advice or insights.

Talon experience... "This is Talon..." I remember that go link from years ago.
Hey OP,
Here is the simple answer. Folks with Classic experience need to acquire Talon experience ASAP. Unfortunately, I think this is going to purposely be difficult. The point of the C2T teams is to get experience with the legacy apps and then act as cheap labor replacements for FTEs. I can't believe people didn't see this coming.
Toodles!
The company is already suffering from useless front-line managers and cowardly EMG. "Don't complain about RTO or PTO, there is nothing VP Rajkumar Bag'o'Donuts can do about it. Just tell us what will make our organization better."
I can think of three things right off the top of my head:
- USAA should fire useless front-line managers who parrot ignorant nonsense like this.
- USAA should fire soulless and spineless EMG like VP Rajkumar Bag'O'Donuts.
- USAA should stop hiring remote workers and force the ones they have to move. Zero point zero excuses for EMGs with sweetheart deals that work remote. These @ssholes almost certainly have an admin assistant who they force into the office while they work remote.
If you are an EMG whose feelings were hurt by this post, pick up a quarter and dial someone who might give a sh!t.
Just to clear this up: Craig was not "kicked off", he decided to retire at the start of the year. I'm well connected in PI and there was no indication from him or anyone else that he was pushed out, he just hit 55 and decided he was done.
A leadership shake-up like this never bodes well. The uncertainty alone is unsettling, but the numbers floating around make it worse. If a 15% cut hits those teams, the fallout will be brutal—not just for the people affected, but for morale across the board. People will be walking on eggshells, wondering who's next, and the atmosphere will turn toxic fast. If my sources are right, things are about to get ugly in CTXO/DDT/Platform teams in the Fall this year
With bank severance now cut to 26 weeks, take out the taxes and that leaves you probably with 2 1/2 - 3 months pay at most.
USAA knows the job market is not employee friendly like it was 2021-2023, so they know most will stay for as long as possible.
It seems like you're looking for a critical take on the situation. While layoffs aren't happening now, the upcoming workforce reduction after the data center migration in Q2 is done may create instability. Employees could face uncertainty, impacting morale and productivity ahead of the transition. The company might struggle with retention, as some workers may be victim of micromanagement and attrition.
If you’ve worked for 30 years and can’t retire, stay put.
There are so many people being laid off across the US. If you want to seek other employment you should start now. Unless you are able to retire, what good is a severance package, which will only last a short while?
