Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

A telecom company that refuses to let its employees use communication technologies

AT&T literally:
sells connectivity
sells remote access
sells cloud voice
sells VPNs
sells mobile data
sells collaboration tools
…while forcing its own people to drive 2 hours a day to sit on Teams calls in an open space with no assigned seating.

Add Stank - a tired, clueless, utility salesman, now targeting and trolling Tmobiles LinkedIn, begging for customers.

Add a stock thats dropping from 28 to now down to 23, it will keep going down.

Could you be more pathetic?

@qb ok well go back to WFH if you agree to die from covid. Then we will do a proper 2020 reset.

@h1 what industry are you talking about? RTO is a corner case. Nobody does 5 days other than a handful of companies over 80% operate in a fully WFH or Hybrid model. This is why nobody wants to or enjoys working here.

RTO is the industry standard.

@g7

Seems like there's three options.

1: Move closer.
2: Find another job.
3: Deal with long commute.

AT&T has made it painfully clear WFH is no longer an option moving forward. For many reasons and the sheer abuses of the system.

Take your pick. I know it su-ks, but I've moved many times for this god-forsaken company. I will not move again.

Problem is, a lot of WFH folks have displaced other and raised costs in lower cost of living areas. Now the chickens are coming home to roost with the highly expected RTO. I have little to no remorse for WFH folks after years of hearing my neighbors brag about "how affordable it is here."

So su-k it up. And move along please.

@dy

I see your argument about moving closer to your work. But you also have to consider housing cost for a home closer to your office. In my case, I was 25 miles from my office several years ago. However, since then they have moved my office TWICE and now I am 60+ miles one way to my current assigned office. Before that, I was kicked out of two previous office buildings due to reorganizations and sent to WFH full time. So housing costs in my current office area are much higher than where I started. Is it fair to force an employee to have to sell their home to move closer to their work without compensation - especially after the housing crash in 2008 or having to sell your house with a 3% mortgage to turn around and buy a new home in a higher cost area with a 6% mortgage? You may want to recosider your point stating the employee should just su-k it up and absorb the cost when the cost is too high. Talk about raising the bar and forcing employees out!!!

Found this beauty SMH!

AT&T has decided to transition its Johnson City call center to a “work-from-home model,” a company spokesperson confirmed on Monday.

The spokesperson said local employees have the option to move into remote roles.

“While Care operations will no longer be based in a physical center locally, our commitment to our people and the Johnson City community remains as strong as ever,” the spokesperson said.

The move comes as AT&T continues to “streamline operations and adapt to changing customers and business needs,” according to the spokesperson.

Many people moved far away from their urban jobs, carrying high salaries and spiking housing costs in lower cost of living areas.

WFH was a temporary solution to everyone going completely insane over covid.

Newsflash: Covid is over and we're back to normalcy.

So, move back to your city or state where you came from and get back to work. If you don't want a 2 hour commute, move closer to your job. Quit crying like a baby online because you spiked costs and displaced others with your temporary WFH luxuries.

You are fully encouraged to use these tools. You are also required to work a minimum full-time schedule in an office setting. Two things can be true at the same time.

The “leadership” is totally out of touch with reality and the feelings and motivation of the employee base. I don’t think the disconnect has ever been as widespread as it is today

@be My 401k is way up and I sell my company match every 3 months. Look at the quarterly earnings at business wireline it’s been down big for 4 years now. Wake up!
I too got caught up in RTO and transferred out. Office life is not for me.

"Enterprise-grade" business lines are typically linked to servers and possibly old-school voip scenarios, etc. Modern offices don't have old-school, rotary phones on the desks, LOL.

You pitiful soul--You sound like someone who is a bit behind the times. Sorry the stock price isn't holding up for your retirement. Next time vote for someone who won't cause your 401K to be less valuable.

Yes during Covid many business cut off there enterprise grade business lines costing AT&T billions. The segment business wireline has been our worst and it was due to work from home. We rely on this revenue so yes we do sell connectivity at home and work. They’d like to keep both segments.
