Thread regarding Allstate Corp. layoffs

Develop a thicker skin

So many of you need to develop a thicker skin. This is capitalism. in capitalism, nobody is going to gift you anything. You need to fight for the things you want to make it happen! This includes respect, better working conditions, better pay...all of it. If you can't get it here, then you move on to a place where you can. But don't just expect to have things handed to you. That's not how corporate America works.

I think the root problem is that people on the bottom of the hierarchy, when faced with prospect of work or let their family starve, will choose to suffer under virtually any conditions to survive. That's competition alright, a race to the bottom to see who can tolerate the most suffering. But what's the alternative?

Its time to try a union. I am not a fan of unions, but with cut pay, capped PTO, pension eliminated, etc Im open to options. Lets give them a try. What do we have to lose? (yes some paycheck, as if we dont work a ton of extra hours esp exempt in violation of FLSA already and US Department of Labor DOES NOTHING).

ok here comes mitigation vendors, HR id--ts (BTW-- people in HR, you ever consider getting a job where you actually do something of value? Just a thought.).

Sincerely,
Sick & Tired

What I love OP is that you "Captains of Industry" are so secure in your rolling wealth you troll this board.

Who am I kidding. You are HR flunky or some vendor (someone listed the companies that offer these "mitigation" services).

Dont got away mad. Go away. But you wont. I get it. You're paid by post/character prob.

Whatever happened to a mega billion dollar company taking care of its employees ? When we survived the layoffs Tommy said in an All Hands meeting that we were the survivors and would reap and enjoy the bebefyof Transformative growth . It’s been double the workload , longer days, stressful and trying to achieve unattainable new metrics .

I hate to break it to you, OP. This is no longer Capitalism. It has warped/morphed into something dirty, disgusting, and corrupted.

Amen to more and better regulation. Unregulated capitalism is called crime. Corporate entities have shown that when they have the ability to ‘do better’, ‘the right thing’ or think long term, they don’t and/or won’t. Therefore, they need legal encouragement & guidance to do so bc of their destructive tendencies all rooted in short term gain.

This is board is simply the result of a company that said “we got you” “bleed blue” “we know how to treat people” all while laying off a significant amount of people in the heart of the pandemic while boasting about access to over $20 billion in cash. Allstate needs to learn how to call itself a spade….a spade is a spade right? The OP isn’t wrong but doesn’t highlight the manipulation/brainwashing that has gone on in corporate America along with Allstate being close to the worse. It’s like saying you have a heart but you are truly heartless. There is nothing wrong with capitalism but the more “heartless” they become the more regulation is needed. If you don’t want more regulation these leaders are going to have to give more weight to other stakeholders outside of shareholders. Just my opinion….

Hate to say it, as not many understand it, but at least unions give the workers the ideal that they will fight for you, stick up for you when conditions are bad, and give the support workers have always needed. You are not going to get it from the corporate machine. You are a number on a spread sheet. That’s it. A Union at least feigns concern. Adjusters and admin employees need a Union here plain to see.

The entitlement of today's worker is disgusting. They come in acting like they run the show and the minute they don't they revert back to the petulant spoiled brats which their parents made the mistake of raising them as. These new hires come in already thinking "me the big boss!" That is a lot of the problem here.

It’s not a lot to ask to want a company to operate with better ethics and morals than this corporate machine.

Yes folks need to fight for themselves. But you don’t get to tell anyone how to feel. Or minimize their humanity or the fact that the structure that controls most folks quality of life is bigger than a single individual’s control. Current corporate America culture and practices suck and people can state the obvious and how they feel about it. It has nothing to do with you personally. Tend to your own feelings and suck it up yourself if it’s so important to you that people don’t share their feelings.
