Thread regarding Centene Corp. layoffs

Removal of incentives

They’re literally taking away all the incentives and still expect employees to be satisfied, pleased, and motivated.
And before anyone says “well you get a paycheck.” Okay and?. That’s the bare minimum they must do.
This is a multi-billion company, they can afford to give people (regardless of level of position) a raise. They can afford to give people bonuses.
Look who continue to get bonuses and raise, look at their job position, and salary info. and then look who at “no longer qualify” for bonuses/raises.
Even promotions nowadays are getting harder, and if they do promote it’s either a pathetic compensation (speaking from experience. they promoted me to lead specialist and u know what my raise was???? .97 cents!!!! LOL). or no compensation at all.
This company is sooo greedy, I’ve worked for multiple different corporations- both private and non-profit and even worked for one of or major rivals, and I have to say- this company is one of the most greediest companies i have ever had the unfortunate experience of working for.
Can’t wait to leave.

Capping your salary makes absolute sense. Why should someone who is choosing to stay at an entry level position for 10+ years make more than their supervisor because they’ve been here longer but they continue to do the bare minimum? Make that make sense. If you guys were in a PL role would you want one of your direct reports earning more than you, while you are working your a$$ off? Simple. No. If you want more pay start actually learning more and finding a higher position. There aren’t any handouts and hitting your numbers monthly isn’t enough. Stand out, go above and beyond. And more importantly don’t make your PL’s life a living he-l because they are only the messenger.

You mentioned "these a--hats not on production can't keep inventory under control". I really must not know something important about Centene. I'm puzzled that Centene, a company that manages health insurance, has production and inventory? Did we start making car parts when I wasn't looking?

I was so surprised when I got hired six years ago that the company didn’t have, or wasn’t shared, a pay scale. I worked for a Blue plan for many years and we had a pay scale for each level of a position. That was how you saw where you were on the ladder. It was also very helpful in setting goals. You could work on learning the new skills needed to move up on the ladder and know what your pay would be. Centene is so backwards and behind the times on organizational concepts.

So did management say no raises at all this year?

I was expecting a lower than normal raises with all that is going on with loss of revenue from Medicaid redeterminations and loss of Medicare Stars, but was still expecting a bone to be thrown.

I think it means that for each role they are going to decide what the max is that you can earn and after that you can no longer get pay increases no matter how long you stay in that position. Just another way of sc--wing over the little guy. Not that the ones they give are worth a damn as it is. So you may have already met whatever they have decided on. I don't know where you would find that information though.

“It's a problem of motivation, all right? Now if I work my *ss off and Initech ships a few extra units, I don't see another dime, so where's the motivation?

  • That's my only real motivation is not to be hassled, that and the fear of losing my job. But you know, Bob, that will only make someone work just hard enough not to get fired.” - Peter Gibbons, Office Space

True. And to all of those they say "the company doesn't owe you a bonus or incentives". True they don't. I also don't owe anyone a bonus given to them for my handwork while I don't get one. I also don't owe this company mandatory OT but they sure as he-l expect me to give up my time when these a--hats not on production can't keep inventory under control. Maybe spend less time being salaried non production that spends all your time in one meeting to go to another meeting to talk about the meeting you were just in and get on the floor and actually do the work? No incentives, no tech reimb, no KCB, no promotions, no raises, no decent COLA and now I am hearing they have decided to cap out wages for current roles. Over this joint.

So well said. Only addition I would add is the ever growing C Suite! I am sure their benefit package is not impacted.
