9 more days 😉
Hope you were paying attention yesterday
Yea. Dang I don't have a job that keeps me wondering if today will be my last day. Instead I have a job where I'm needed and respected. Plus, that severance check has been growing nicely in my brokerage account. Sure, I'm a little bit bitter about it, but life is good on the other side.
“End of”
Felt I should resurrect this thread which was probably started by a tr0ll
@Lufr+1s275Qoa Were you paying attention yesterday?
It isn't even June yet.
Turns out OP is a liar.
Post the emails 👀?
Viasat is planning layoffs by June, they have already received warning emails to some members, it looks like another layoff session for 2024 has started….very bad culture..
@grhs+1s275Qoa
This may or may not be a legit strategy
Just be wary if your department has a “few” new hires at a lower pay rate than you….
Prediction :
- You (Or another Candidate) take the job
- They layoff 2-3 of your co-coworkers
- They put all their old tasking to you
- PROFIT
@fzvq+1s275Qoa
Run!
RUN
RUNNN!!!
So it seems like there is a lot of BS in the severance formula. I guess that's why they won't publish it. 15 years and one week per year for some and 1.5 for others.
so is it a bad time to be accepting an offer at Carlsbad location? Any thoughts?
Dude I know, got roughly 1.5 weeks per year. He was there around 15 years
The asymptote is 1 week per year. :-(
@chsu+1s275Qoa
So how was the meeting? You still employeed?
Side note: love how all the sports comments got deleted lmao so mods actually pay attention on this site lol
@bfox+1s275Qoa the severance in November varied wildly. I believe it depended on department. I heard everything from 1-3 weeks/year
They gave 2.5% last Dec. It'll be only 6 months since then, so they will give 1.25% raise.
Why IBM? Northrop or Blue Origin is more likely.
Viasat gets bought out by Lockheed or IBM CY25 is a better bet than Suns in 4.
Layoffs will happen right before the 360 reviews. What percentage increases are expected for those who survive?
Are the layoffs happening today?
Anyone notice when we submit timecards on a Thursday, layoffs happen the next day? Also got scheduled a meeting with my manager in the AM with no subject or reason.
The looming doom is exhausting at this company.
The bad thing about not having a good severance package is people will jump ship instead of hanging in there.
They’re probably banking on employee attrition. But numbers are numbers. They need to cut cost to keep the investors’ confidence.
The problem with them losing credibility with employees is that employees will start jumping ship. If you think the quarterly will be bad now, imagine how bad the next one will be if there's a layoff and people start leaving and they don't have enough people to work on any projects anymore.
They have historically provided some severance pay. Not 2 weeks per year. They have some formula that they won't reveal. One week a year or so seems like ...
Not sure about maternity leave or anything medical related…
But I remember people where getting laid off while they were on vacation 🤷♂️
Are people under extended leave, maternity etc protected from layoff?
Does anyone know if they give any sort of severance for people in California? Especially those who have been in the company for long time, like 10 plus years.
sorry but you lost me at "there can't be another layoff". that's out of our hands, doesn't matter if guru said "no more layoffs", his job now is to make the quarterlies, if revenues aren't at target then staff cuts are coming. given the rate customers are adopting new entrants, I'm skeptical revenues will hold up. we'll see, but he doesn't get my benefit of the doubt on credibility. remember the first all hands after the vs3 antenna announcement where he emphasized "we have $2billion in cash and that's billion with a b, we will be alright" which was utterly tone deaf in that not all of "we" could fit under that $2billion umbrella. it was a silly and pointless thing to say embedded in his first viasat challenge.
Which locations and/or departments will see the most impact from the upcoming June 3rd layoff?
execs say > of things then twist themselves into pretzels when they do the opposite. his statement of "no more layoffs" is true right up until it's not. if he needs to drop some heads to make the quarterlies then he will do it because then he establishes a quarterly track record so he can get his bonus from the board. the credibility in question is not between guru to us, but between guru and the people who control his employment and bonus (the board). you, me, anyone else don't matter
There can't be another layoff, at least not in the short term. Guru and the other execs would lose ALL their credibility if there was a layoff just 2 months after he said no more layoffs. They are d-mb, but they aren't that d-mb.
it's not about claiming a source, you know you don't need that corroboration. revenues are middling, the balance sheet is a disaster, and viasat gave up its leadership position to new entrants it underestimated not understanding the disruption they posed. so yes, more layoffs are coming. it's not like all the signs aren't there, layoffs are the only innovation execs have left to offer. early june feels feasible, the next earnings call is around may 15th, anticipate execs discussing another "right sizing" (love the exec-speak) completed ahead of the next fiscal quarter start.
What's your source for June 3? Any more info about how large the layoffs will be?
