Dell Pro Laptop is too CHUNKY

My “new” work issued dell laptop is quite the chunker and is as thick as two iPhones. At least I get a good workout carrying it to my ONSITE job daily! Plenty of blue screens too, wonder if it’s refurbished. Oh and it opens like a noodle too

@1gh For my team at least the biggest laptops with a pumped are the standard. I got shafted into a smaller one because my laptop died 8 months early (surprise surprse) and they had no stock (again no surprise there) I can't work with a dead laptop so I got whatever they had on hand. I still lost 3 days of work waiting for a replacement and having to get our broken tools to work via 100 workarounds. I'd also like to point out that a dead laptop was a non issue in the EMC days since they didn't like single points of failure and issued us desktops and laptops. But, yeah, Dell hates redundancy so here we are.

I am delaying getting mine from the two-year refresh (pointless anyway) as long as possible, like, when it won't let me log in anymore. I am in no rush to get a laptop with no NUMPAD. Terrible idea to give us cr-ppier cr-p.

@gq I can confirm, I started in 2015 and was stuck with a tiny lenovo with an I3 processor while all my colleagues had Dells with I7s. After about 2.5 years some bigwig visited the office and practically had a si--y fit over all the lenovo branded equipment we were still using. I was issued a "new" Dell laptop that same day. Most frustrating part fir me was going to the IT office and seeing stacks of newer laptops that had obviously been sitting there for months if not years.

I'm by no means a Dell fanboi, I b!tch on this forum enough as it is, but I recently got a 14 Pro Plus (engineering spec) and it's the best Dell laptop I've had. Over two decades I've my fair share of nightmare Dell work laptops, I could make a list of all failures I've had (literal keys popping off the keyboard was a laugh), but thus far, no BSOD, it feels well built, and no issues. Will it replace the Macbook Pro I use outside of work? Definitely not...but for work, I'm content.

@br In ISG we don’t get the latest gen. We get the leftovers from the previous models.
Maybe you’re in marketing or work c-suite adjacent.

The hoipoloi - we get what they have in the back room

@OP Judging by your post you don’t work for Dell. I have all the new laptops and none open like a noodle. Is the new pro plus a little boxy upfront yes but not large at all. Keep the comments here to what the site is about.

This is a very strong contender for the d-mbest topic I've ever seen here. Oh and the horror to have to actually have to carry it into the office for the job you were hired for. Darn, and you thought the Covid WFH would last forever. Jokes on you brother, and don't miss arm day at the gym or moms meatloaf.

@b4 They refreshed me with a 13" laptop to replace my old 17" one. No more 10 key and no more nvidia graphics card to drive mire than 2 external displays. Not the end of the world, but my old laptop would handle 5 external displays plus the laptop screen. This made it so much easier to keep up with Teams, Slack (yes my org uses both), emails, case research, screenshare with customer, updating my onenote, and keeping an eye on the queues

@b8

Yes trolling at its finest.

Dell Pro Plus is lighter than previous gen, and assuming lighter than your 3 year old Lati, you can compare online.

Also, your reference to chunky and noodle, i take it you heard that on a recent townhall and thought it would sound clever, however what you failed to understand is two different products, the latter is not in circulation as a corp device

This is just hyperbolic trolling. I just got a new laptop and it's much lighter than my previous model and is a bit thinner as well.

I've had no BSODs whatsoever.

"Thick as too iPhones" bish i remember when a compact laptop was still 2" thick and weighed 10lbs. You're crying just to cry.

That's wonderful, I just put in for a new laptop. Can't wait to still experience the same issues I am having now but with a beefier footprint.

They don't care what folks get with the refresh as long as it's AI capable and cheaper than what you had before...

What discount?!? The cr-p is so overpriced to begin with! You are better off with mac..
