Work is an exchange of value. You are giving up time in exchange for money. The company can make more money. You however cannot fabricate more time. Act accordingly at all times in your self interest.
A company gets to be considered "first" if they put the employees "first". Cisco never puts employees first. My manager once told me to go to a regional site half way around the world......the day before one of my sons graduated from college. Of course I said no (besides, it was a total BS political trip). That region's VP called me personally to ask me why I said no (I was a low grade....no reason for a VP to call me). I ended up going the day after my son's graduation.....and then got LR'd 3 months later. And yeah, the trip was a total sh-tshow....I wasn't needed there. It was a just a political show. Sc--w that.

@gj hopefully what he meant was not to put your own interests above Cisco's while at work. Which is true for any team success at some level. But it came out sounding much darker than that. At least to me.
